Aug 2008: from BA. Same brown 500ml bottle that everyone else seems to have had, it claims 5.0% though, not 5.2% as stated on the site, the label is also a little different maybe. Mine says "Wheat Baltas" as a heading. Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier glass. Managed to get the whole bottle into the glass in one pour, great huge white head and a cloudy yellow body. This beer looked like a good Hefeweizen to me. All Hefeweizen have wonderful aromas, I like the strong vanilla and banana smelling type. This beer had the vanilla, but no banana. There was a weak sour citrus note to the smell which fitted in well with the vanilla, so missing my bananas wasn’t a problem. Regular Hefeweizen flavours, but without the ’umph’. A little on the watery side for a true champion of this style. Having tried (and reviewed) plenty of Hefeweizen, this looked the part, but fell away once I got under the skin of its looks and smells.

Sample from tap, CBF 2012. Cloudy golden colour with a white, creamy head. Aroma with wheat, citrus peel and coriander. Taste is light sweet with some banana notes. Light body, "soft" texture, and high carbonation. Overall, not bad, even trough not as good as the German originals.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before April 2008, drank Sept 2007. Poured into two Veltins Pilsner glasses. A clear, pale golden colour with a pure white head, it looks like a good lager should. I always have trouble with finding a truely strong aroma from lagers, this one is the same. The label claims they use bitter aromatic hops, well I couldn’t smell them. Some lagers are tasteless (like Bitburger for instance), this was refreshing and thirst-quenching and had some substance to it, one of the better lagers I have had, and I’ve had a few. A yeasty with hints of grains and malt. The mouthfeel was again typical lagerish, which in my book means not a lot. The flavours did loiter, but they didn’t put down roots. All in all, not bad, in fact it would hold up well against other better known European lagers and is certainly superior to all the mass produced ones. Glad I tried it.

Bottled (from K Citymarket Lielahti, Tampere). Pale yellow colour with a small white head. Aroma is grainy and rubbery with mild cardboard. Flavour is very mild, but consists of the same. Watery. Rather harsh. It’s nice that Carlsberg makes a beer with a fancy design, but which contents are really crap.
