The 12oz can pours with a watery clear gold body that supports a short lived white head. The aroma offers up a pleasing mix of lime citrus bitter notes and then into faint earthy barn yard and floral hop notes. Behind those aromatics are a sweet mix of honey and orange flavored gummy bear. The taste is just on the rich and thick side for the style but steers clear of becoming heavy and sweet. The taste starts with a bite of citrus hops and modest bitter floral hops and then picks up sweet malts and a touch of sweet pilsner malts that carry a mild grainy maltiness. Nice hop forward Pils and stays out of the sweetness danger zone.

Bottle via trade, thanks to Trukpro. Very dark brown pour with a finger of thick, creamy brown head. Retention of a thick ring throughout and great lacing. Immediately I am impressed by the nose of this brew. Full and rich, but very sweet. Toasted brown sugar, molasses, toffee… sweet, but not overtly sweet. Light barrel notes, anise, and modest roast. The complexities drop off in the taste; toffee, toasted malt, vanilla, and dark pitted fruits. Smooth and silky, but sweet. At least it’s not cloying, but I can’t get past sweet as a descriptor. The anise comes through more as it warms. Solid beer overall, nose is outstanding.

Sampled at GBBF 2013, London - Day 2. Pours clear gold with a modest, foamy white froth head. Heavy resinous hops in the nose with big mango, orange and grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor with rich and juicy citrus, melon, mango, pine, pale malt sugars. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Well and resinous to finish with lightly dry citrus now, juicy character, sticky sugars. Rich and hefty but very solid. Good condition, too, which is key.

GABF 2013. Pours a black appearance with a creamy brown head. Really intense moderately roasted coffee, dark chocolate, a bit earthy, dark chocolate aroma. Somewhat creamy, dark chocolate, richly roasted coffee flavor with just a bit of acidity. Super easy to drink and delicious. Last beer that I had at the fest and one of my favorites.

Black waxed 22oz bomber pours with a deep dark body that supports a full semi tight light mocha head of foam. The aroma initially erupts with sweet smooth candy like bourbon and then that note gives way to a mix of burnt malts, dark chocolate malts, some sweet molasses and a mild earthy milk chocolate like sensation. The taste is rich and smooth. It starts with a rush of dark roasted malts, burnt malts, thick dark chocolate and some sweet molasses and bourbon. It just stays that way right into the finish with smooth rich and balanced boldness right to the roasty end. Great sipper.
