Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Cask at the Gladiator Club, Iffley Road 19-02-07. Poured a dark brown with only the merest of heads, sweet malts dominated the aroma, taste was rich maltiness again, but some lovely dark fruitiness to balance it, I thought this was an extremely good beer and had three more pints!

Half pint handpulled at The Penderels Oak, Holborn. Some off-white, frothy head that left great lacing on the glass. Deep ruby-dark body. Dark malty aroma. Slightly roasted flavour supported by a dash of sweet caramel. Creamy mouthfeel. Vague bitter end (4.02.2007).

(Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Reddish mahogany colour with frothy, off-white head leaving some lacing. Malty, fruity, slightly roasted nose with notes of orange peel, fudge and earthy hops. Malty taste with notes of chocolate, fruity hints of dried fruit and orange, with lots of earthy hops in the finish. Firm body supported by lots of malt combined with fruity and hoppy aromas and flavours makes this a very well balanced, nicely constructed and very tasty brew. Nice!

Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm Amber colour. Fruity nose with plums and vegetables. Sweet with sugar and ash, medium bodied. Densely malty with a grassy, resiny finish that just gown in bitterness. Solid, but too sweet bitters are not really my cup of tea.

Bottle picked up at Tuckers Maltings Newton Abbot last month. Dark reddish/brown in colour no head too speak of some roasted and malty notes. Taste was more of the same roasty, malty bit on the thin side but pleasant enough.

Cask handpull at Wetherspoons, Folkestone. Attractive chestnut colour with lasting creamy beige head. Some light malt and some earthy hop on the aroma. Not a huge aroma. Bit of malt in mouth, but a bit watery too and lacking in flavour. OK, if too watery
