More evidence of COAST being pretty damn good with their lager game. Offers up grass, toasted grain, mild apple-lemon notes, and a firm floral/woody bitterness on the back end. Hints of white bread and straw in the fade. Very nice pint.

Very good hefeweizen, offering up the classic banana-clove goodness laced with lemon, vanilla, and white bread. Subtle grainy sweetness turns fruity and yeasty on the back end. Spicy finish leaves a lingering grassiness on the palate. Only real drawback is in the appearance; looks a tad flat compared to a traditional fluffy, boisterous hefe. Better than it scores.

Can at Charleston Place, Thoroughbred Club. Poured a mostly clear yellow color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was light toasted malts. Light sweetness. Decent, easy to drink. Light crispness.

Taster at Hops & Pie 8-13-16 Hop Fest

Super deep and hazy pure copper and very bronze glowing beer with some almost ruby and orange coloured tints when held up to a light, all with a thick, three centimetre tall off-white head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of alcohol, resin, pineapple, light pine, some cleanser, a touch of caramel and nuts with a large malt backbone showing biscuits and a good deal of yeast near the end, and still a bit more alcohol at the very end as well - smells quite strong, my guess was at 9,5%. Medium to Full-bodied; Super rich malt profile at first with the nutty and very earthy flavours showing a lot of grain, some biscuits, a lot of alcohol and resin with pure pine, cleanser, astringent flavours with medicinal notes and ending with a light syrupy bite of sugars. Aftertaste shows more of the alcohol, resin and astringent flavours with a touch of apricots and pineapple as the fruit-based sugar at the finish. Some additional hop notes come through at the end, but more of a warrior, amarillo or slightly more toffee-y or earthier than you might expect, but the alcohol definitely hits near the end, along with the big body. Overall, a nice and robust Imperial IPA that definitely shows more of an East Coast style, but perhaps in a good way - with a still fairly good balance, but the malt and alcohol hit hard, with some hops in there trying to keep up with the malt, but this is definitely more malt-centric, even as an Imperial IPA. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Greenville Beer Exchange in Greenville, South Carolina on 31-May-2018 for US$2,74 sampled at home in Washington on 08-July-2018.
