Handpull cask at the Kings Head, Leicester. Dark brown and translucent with a small layer of khaki head. Light aroma, some blackberry, chocate, liquorice. Taste is... oh my word. A hoppy blackberry with a gorgeous little liquorice note in the background. So much depth to the flavour. Medium to long finish. Oily body with no carbonation. This is exceptional.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Railway Tavern, Newport (Shropshire) on 4th July 2022. Light golden body, clean and clear; white crown. Decent enough session ale with an easy drinking hop bitterness balanced by a malty base.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark copper colour with a lasting bubbly white head. The aroma is nutty and floral. The flavour is light to moderate bitter, with a smooth, big malty, floral perfume, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at Lych Gate Tavern, Wolverhampton. Pours a reddish brown with a small off-white head and good lacing. Some malts can be discerned in the aroma, but it’s all rather slight. Berry fruits are the initial impression in the mouth. Gerneally sweet with a creamy texture and a caramel base. Some traces of liquorice too. Finish is slightly bitter. Reasonable.

Cask at Bird In Hand, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small beige head and good lacing. Malts, treacle and dark fruits combine to give a heady aroma. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, with dark fruits, malts, plums and a trace of chocolate. Finish is cruity. This is very nice indeed, but lacks the quintessential stout characteristic.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Has a fresh fruity aroma – mainly strawberries. Fruity again in the mouth, where the strawberries are joined by raspberries. There are malts too on a base of biscuits, and some bitterness creeps in later. Finish is dry with lemons. Not a bad beer but more a standard bitter than an IPA (nowhere near hoppy enough).

On cask at The Wellington, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma reveals bready malt, a little metallic notes, and very subdued hops. Flavour is very metallic, with bready malt, metallic notes, and bitterness. Metallic and harsh. Lame.
