11th February 2014Rake. Keg. Clear deep red - amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light with a near perfect amount of crispness. Smooth light creamy dark malt. Very light touch of roast underneath. Nice fruity tang. Light piney hops and a touch of red berry fruits. Light smooth finish. Mild bitter linger. Super easy drinking, very good stuff from Brains.

Keg at the Rake, 12/02/14. Dark mahogony brown with a light tan covering. Nose is blackcurrants, light pine, earthy hops, faint tropical tang. Taste comprises earthy hops, mineral bite, Ribena berry, faint cocoa, hint of tropicana. Medium bodied, mioderate carbonation, semi dry closure. Entry level CDA, not one I’d bother with again.

Keg at the Rake - Borough Market, London. Pours clear brown with a small, creamy tan head. Burnt pine in the nose, some toasty brown bread. Light sweet flavor with toasty pine, mellow dry cocoa, some earthy bitterness, minerals. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent balance to finish but the overall character is mild; some further dry chocolate, toasty brown bread, dirt. Decent.

Bottle from local supermarket. Clear amber colour with a decent slightly off white head. Subtle citrus fruit and floral aroma with mild hoppiness. Was expecting more hop given its ’style’. Fairly dry, quite thin body. Left somewhat disappointed.

330ml bottle from somewhere in Cardiff. Not your typical saison, quite a light appearance, like cloudy lemonade.. presents the crisp dryness of a pilsner with a fresh saison-esque floral character and a sharp spiciness. The three ’C’ hops are all present and accounted for, adding to a good floral citrus flavour. Quite lively and gassy, but that’s really my only criticism.

Red/copper colour with thin, creamy head. Light woodiness and whiskey in the aroma some floral fruity hops too. Flavour has some sweet vanilla whiskey but overall is quite bland. Texture is thick and even a bit syrupy. Low/no carbonation.

330ml bottle. Wouldn’t necessarily have labelled this a wit on a blind tasting, has some prominent orangey elements and some bold hop flavours, the wit yeast really lying low in the background. Interesting but a slightly confused taste.

330ml bottle from somewhere in Cardiff. Pours dark brown with deliciously earthy malts and a slight caramel essence emerging from the undergrowth. Quite a nice bitterness too. Perhaps a bit too carbonated but on the whole a nice addition to the Brains Craft roster.
