One-third pint by cask at Brains Bar, GBBF 2013, first day. Fawn-colured head over a deep, dark brown coloured body. Dark fruit and dark, mid-sweet, malts on the nose. Malt-fruity taste with dusty hops and caramel malts and a little bit of spices added to it. Dry bittersweet ending. Fine bodied. Not bad at all (London Olympia 13.08.2013).

Cask at Brains Bar, GBBF 2013. Deep dark brown coloured body. Not much head or lace. Chocolate malty nose with a smoked afterglow. Flavours of bacon and chocolate. Malt-porky ending. OK, but one drink was enough for a while (London Olympia 13.08.2013).

Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a cloudy yellow with no head. Aroma of banana essence, cloves and lemon grass. Flavours of straw, bitter fruit rind and unroasted nuts. Palate was a little watery, with some citrussy notes and a little soap.

Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a clear light copper with a medium white head. Aroma of grass, corn and a hint of lemon scented cleaning product. Tropical fruit flavours with straw and bitter orange peal. Finishes with dry cereal, light resin and some toffee. Don’t know why, but these guys just can’t seem to get the full flavour and aroma out of their hops...

Cask at Bree Louise. Pork and Chocolate. Hm... Firstly the aroma had a real crispy pork rind thing going on, didn’t really get any chocolate. On tasting, I got no bacon, no chocolate but very distinct rye and roasted malt flavours. Not my cup of tea at all. And made the young girl behind the bar feel "very ill" after tasting it with me. A shame as previous Brains craft offerings have been superb.

330ml Bottle: BBD Nov 2013, poured into an Augustijn badged chalice on 5 Sep 2013 at home during a random beer tasting evening with nobody except myself. Pale golden brew, with a thin covering of small white bubbles. The nose was fairly hoppy, spicy and semi-floral/citrus, a malty note or two as well. the taste was as mixed as the smell, hop lead but malts all around, I liked it, not sure it’s really an American style IPA as the label claims, but an enjoyable brew that will divide the beer geeks amongst us into different sides (good v bad). The alcohol was nicely hidden and overall i thought it more than OK.

330ml bottle from Morrisons - I enjoyed this, probably because it followed a crappy pale lager. A bit sweet, but had some good citrus nose, and a well rounded body. Bit disappointed with the finish, expected it to be longer and stronger... it wasn’t. Not bad though either way.

Bottle @ Yespr. Orange-amber with lace. Nose of stewed fruit, peaches, lemon, some oak, vanilla. Woody, fruity flavor, mellow and rounded, with caramel. Sweet, but mellow. Oily, silky. Nice.
