WHAT'S AN UPSLOPE?
Meteorologically speaking, it’s a front range-covering, water-table-filling, snow-dumping weather pattern that anyone with bindings and a roof rack would die for. Beerologically speaking, it’s carbonated gold. In 2008, Matt Cutter, Henry Wood and Dany Page, kissed their homes in Cleveland, Atlanta and Argentina goodbye to bring their beer-brewing love affair to Boulder, Colorado. With that, Upslope Brewing Company was born. And after ten years of supplying Colorado with trailhead tallboys, and pow-day libations made from the freshest snowmelt, the finest hops and the purest passion for living life outdoors, one thing has become undeniable. These guys didn’t just float another microbrew into the sea of Colorado microbrews. They created a lineup of quality craft beer that tastes as good poured from a tap as they do pulled out of a fishing vest. In other words, for those who call the Continental Divide home, the perfect storm.

Medium amber pour - soapy, thick head - aroma of mint, grapefruit, candied orange peel, and peppery hops, atop some sweet caramel malt - fairly malt forward for an ipa, with quite a bit of caramel sweetness - however, the hops are zesty and spicy enough to counter this reasonably well, at least until the beer warms up a bit - then the sweetness is a little much - there is some buttery diacetyl way in the back, too, but again, the zesty character of the hops attempts to cover up the flaw - not terrible - if they dropped the sweetness and abv a little, they would have a much more solid product here.

Deep amber with a tan head. Very fruity and floral aroma with some sweet malts, as well. For an IPA, it seems to be without bitterness. I hope it shows through in the flavor... More fruit sna floral notes int he flavor. The sweet malts are nice, but could use a higher hopping to really balance it out. It does have a slight bitter finish. I’d be much happier if this was marketed as an amber ale because it’s not a bad beer, just doesn’t strike me as an IPA.

Copper with a flimsy white head. Nice floral and fruit hops and a sweet malt aroma. A little lacking in the flavor department. Fruity with light floral notes. Tastes a little green with a malty backbone. It’s a nice beer just a little run of the mill.
