Pint at the brewery - but they will serve you this beer in a one liter stein if you so desire, which is pretty freakin’ awesome - you can also purchase said stein - anyway, this is fairly strong for the style, but you can’t notice it - very smooth and malty - a rich german malt profile - a touch doughy - moderately estery, with some notes of strawberry - hop profile is low, but there is a touch of bitterness - a touch tangy on the back end - a nicely executed rendition of the style.

Growler courtesy of a traveling beer club member. The beer is a hazy orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing. Citrusy hops aroma with some pine and malt notes. Medium body with flavors of grapefruity hops, caramel, earthy malt, and pine. The finish is hoppy with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Growler courtesy of a traveling beer club member. The beer is a clear dark amber brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, roasted coffee, chocolate and hops. The finish is roasty with a lingering malt aftertaste. Decent all around.

Snifter at the brewpub - viscous black pour that actually leaves a sticky brown film along the inside of the glass as you drink the beer - I a normally not a fan of such thick, sweet imperial stouts - however, the abv kind of warrants it - plus it is pretty darn good for what it is - loads of anise, tamarind, caramelized sugars, a hint of taro root - vanilla, spicy alcohol - thick body encourages slow sipping, which this beer needs - brown sugar, molasses and prune - light vinous character on the tail end - lingering spicy alcohol and bittersweet baker’s chocolate - considering it’s heft, it is surprisingly balanced - I think that, if they bottled this, or at the very least allowed growler sales of it, it might reach the top 50 here, as it seems to have a lot of what most people look for in an imperial stout.

Cask at the brewery - now listed at 8.5% abv - hazy orange - lasting, soapy head - still on the sweet end of the spectrum, but with plenty of earthy hop flavor and bitterness to keep it from being overly so - copious citrus and pineapple flavors make the sweetness more welcome as well - bitterness is strong without being astringent - fairly well crafted and surprisingly non-abrasive for the style.

Tap at The Rackhouse - a seriously over sweet and extremely clove heavy hefe, both in the nose and the flavor - some overripe banana is pretty heavy in the nose as well - flavor is heavy on sugars and clove, with a wee bit of yeast and herbs (sage) - kind of hard to drink.

Draft - clear golden pour - like most american-made tripels, this one is really honey sweet - a bit too much so - flavors of pear and apple - some toasted grain and spicy character, as well as a light bitterness try to balance this out, but do kind of a half-assed job - there are some decent aspects, it is just a bit cloying.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a large white head and a hazy yellow body. Aroma is dry with lemon, pear, pepper, grassy and candi sugar residuals. Taste is dry, fruity, peppery, potpourri, and nettles. Dry mouthfeel with lively bubbles.

22 oz bottle shared by theisti courtesy of alagnak. Color is clear but slick looking brown. Pours with a small head. Aroma is strong dry leafy wood. Its definitely lagered doppelbock but a bit too dry and not malty enough for my tastes. Some boozy-cherry character coming off the alcohol. Flavor is a bit sweeter with a woody and earthy flavor. Leaves that woody and dry German lager flavor. It is good but nothing special.

22 oz bottle courtesy of alagnak. Pour is mostly clear ruby mahogany with a 1/2 inch off white head that falls quickly. Aroma is soft, though sort of chemically cherry sweet - like a throat lozenge. Behind that some generic toasty malt. Taste is the cough syrup - cherry, medicinal, and some band aid behind that. Sort of weird and a little muddled. Palate is medium to light bodied, active carbonation and a dry mineral finish. Thanks Chris - nice to try this one.
