Pizzeria Paradiso, Georgetown tap ($6): Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is lightly smoked roast, with some coffee and barely any chocolate. Taste is, however, underwhelming. No flavor really stands out. Body is far too light. Doesn’t feel like I am drinking a big beer at all. I think that they should have given this one a few more trys before putting this out.

Draft at Mad Fox Brewing’s 3rd Annual Barleywine Festival. Poured a copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was slightly sweet, toffee malt notes. Flavor was malt, some light vanilla. Enjoyable. Alcohol is present, but it doesn’t burn terribly.

Opaque black brown beer, small tan head. Softish dry palate. Rich malt, semi dry. Some lactose. A touch of Port Wine and Brandy give this extra dimension. Semi dry finish. Interesting, rich and tasty.

A repeat at the 2014 GBBF. Wildly left field porter with flavours of lavender, spice, perfumey herb and a little spice induced warmth. Interesting stuff.

Draft at the brewery. Pitch black pour, I had a small tan head but my friends did not have a head to speak of. aroma is sweet, touch boozy on nose. Flavor is touch smoke, dark malts. Some alcohol warmth at the back of the throat. That was February 1st’s rating. After 6 months, they put it back on tap at the brewery. Rich, creamy notes. Some smoke, mostly a nice array of roasted malts. Would love to try this one in a few more months... again.
