IPA created exclusively for the Gents Bierfestival, by a befriended Antwerp craft brewery (and one I have only had good experiences with so far); the name is a typical Ghent saying, literally meaning “do not fold” but commonly used in the sense of “do not give up” or “remain strong”. At Gents Bierfestival, obviously (from tap). Snow white, medium thick, papery lacing, regularly shaped head, cloudy yolk-yellow blonde robe. Aroma of lime peel, pink peppercorns, grapefruit, lemongrass, green mango, some dankness (sweat), red onions, lemonbalm, meringue, orange zest. Dryish onset for a hazy IPA (yet still with a juicy note), minerally carbonation of medium sharpness, hints of unripe mango and papaya, rounded body; bready core under a long hop bitter finish, grapefruity and wormwoody with some unripe tropical fruit and a touch of onion thrown in – almost reminiscent of the old West Coast days and I guess this one can be interpreted as one of those oldskool West Coast bitter IPAs with hazy looks (you see these hybrids very often nowadays), albeit in a more elegant, ‘green-fruity’ and lightly tropical-tinged form. Combines the best of two different IPA worlds – very well done indeed, and a worthy festival beer for one of Belgium’s finest beer festivals.

Draught Yellow-ochre beer, fully hazy with a small rim and lacerings. Grainy, multiple malts, summergrain, bit of ureum. Bitter, grapefruit, grapefruitpeel. Bitterish nuts, Brazil nuts with a bitterish coating. Well bodied, slick, feels a tad underfermented. OK.

Cloudy dark yellow blond beer, big creamy irregular white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: fruity, melons, hoppy, a little floral, tropical fruits, juicy, nice! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity start, a bit sweet, hoppy bitterness, a bit grassy, resinous touch. Aftertaste: bitter, hoppy, a bit soapy, some citrus, fruity, resinous bitterness in the finish.

Pours fairly clear, medium colored yellow. Small white head. Stable. Scent is full, green hop, intense. Taste is full, malty, very bready. Mild green hoppyness. Very easy drinker. more than decent.

pours very hazed blonde. medium white head. Scent is creamy, intense yellow fruits hoppyness. Tropical, almost banana, but not by the yeast. Taste is smooth, very hop forward. to the harsh side even. Pine undertone under a shitload of yellow fruits, and even a mildly bitter backbone. Medium carbo over a thick body. Nice, but not as amazing as last years version .

Pours hazed yellow. Small to medium white head. Relatively mild scent. Bit papaya style frtuiyness. Taste is smooth, providing a robust bitterness. Milder hoparoma. Green and papaya style.

Pours hazed yellow. Small white head. Weak aroma, traces of cheese (very mildly, but still). Taste is assertivly bitter, tad creamy. Citrus, orange, papaya, again a mild Isovaleric touch. Not problematic per se, but certainly imperfect.

Draught Lacerings left over fully muddy yellow beer. Citrus, citruspeel, grapefruit and again one with aspirin (salicylic acid). Faint hint of cakedough. Dull-bitterish flavour with mainly citruspeel, even dried and powdered citruspeel. Feels quite spritzy, yet slick and oily texture. One that is rather average.
