Orangey golden colour with a decent (1 centimetre in height) slightly off-white head. Smells of a bit of hops, the malt background and a bit of citrus all are major players in the aroma. Medium to Light-Bodied; Subtle flavours, a bit of hops balanced across about the same amount of malt and tied together with some subtle spices and that pertinent citrus. Aftertaste is a bit acidic and a bit clean and refreshed. A pretty good beer, and one of the better for the style! Worth trying if you live in the Mid-Atlantic region and can pick one up! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia.

Dark amber colour with a very dense tan head--this is the way an IPA should look! Aroma purely of very high a.a. hops--a hop-head's favourite smell! One of the best smelling IPA's i've ever come across, this one has definately been dry-hopped for a while! Medium-bodied; No carbonation in the taste, a strong sweetness initially followed by a subtle hoppiness which gets stronger as it sits in your mouth. It seems that the hops are stale or old, but the ones used for dry-hopping are still great! Overall, I was expecting much more, so I will definately try another bottle and compare it to this. Definately try this beer if you live in the Mid-Atlantic region! I bought this 765 mL bottle from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia and sampled it on 31-August-2003.

Fantastic brown colour with a nice dense off-white head which seems to last for a bit. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, malt and caster sugar. The initial taste is very metallic followed by a bit of the aromas picked up in the smell. The aftertaste is purely malty with little else. The appearance and aroma are simply great, and I expected the taste to be equally as good, but unfortunately it wasn't. A decent beer, but not as good as it could have been. Worth trying if you can find...because Stoudt's doesn't bottle too many 12 ouncers! Overall it is an average Marzen, but there are many better beers that you could try...so pass this up unless you've had all the better ones from the Mid-Atlantic region. I bought my twelve ounce bottle from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia.

Why does this remind me of their Anniversary lager? Anyway, has a dark red/brown body, with a thin tan head. Aroma of cereal grains and roasted malt. Flavor is dominated by semi-sweet roasted malts and cereals. Finishes dry like their Dunkel. A hefty price to pay for an average stout.

Bottled. Orange colour, cloudy, firm head. Honey aroma, Sweet and mild with clean mouthfeel and a sugary finish with a good punch of alcohol. More like a strong Russian lager than a bock.

Black in colour, opaque with a thin (1 centimetre) brown head. Smells of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate dominate the aroma. The taste is medium-bodied, with a bunch of 'dark' characteristics: chocolate, roasted malt and coffee all come out. Dry palate, the bitterness from the coffee and roasy flavours stays in the palate for a while. An above average stout that should be tasted if available! This is not an imperial stout, but rather a dry stout and should be reclassified as soon as possible to avoid confusion. I had half of a 765 mL bottle purchased by fellow Ratebeerian JonR888710 at Total Wine in McLean, Virginia.

This seems to be a Dunkel, and not a bock or doppelbock, as the description claims. Caramely, roasted aroma lifts from the dark brown, tan-headed body. Flavor is a rich medley of rich, sweet caramely malts that subsides to roasted bitter notes and a dry finish. A very well-done dunkel, or, a very well-done atypical bock.

The beer was a brilliant golden colour with a nicely developed white head. The aroma was pretty nice, mostly sweet but somewhat musty and spicy. The taste was very sweet as well, but yeast and clove characteristics came out during the aftertaste. Definately a good example of an Abbey Tripel, but not the best i've had. Bottled: 8.january.2003, this was almost six months old when I had it (4.july.2003) and was purchased in a 765 mL bottle from Harris Teeter (grocery store) in Arlington, Virginia.

Reddish-copper color - almost no head, very low carbonation - slight hoppy and bready aroma - flavor is like a very malty pale ale - pretty sweet, but almost no hops/bitterness - rather thin, leaving nothing much on the palate but a slight hop flavor, making you wonder why the hell you couldn't taste any hops before you swallowed - bland bu drinkable.

Blonde golden colour with a eggshell white colour. Bright smell with a hoppy and malty smell. Taste with a full malt flavour. Very hoppy as well. Good combination of a malty beginning but a very hoppy ending. Truly a great bock. If you like this style, definately try this one!
