Description
Elysian Brewing Company operates three locations of which Elysian Capitol Hill is the main brewery and a full production brewery – Elysian Airport Way, in the Georgetown neighborhood (since 2011). Known both for classic styles and for flexibility and innovation, Elysian has brewed over 500 different recipes since opening in 1996. While Elysian’s brewers use a variety of unusual ingredients, they are seasonally notorious for their pumpkin beers. In 2015 Elysian joined AB InBevs' family of craft brands.

Fairly hazy copper and bronze coloured body with some slightly clear notes towards the bottom that bring out more of an amber glow, all with a thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of funky bretty and lactobilly notes with a pungent scent of the yeasts with a light touch of strawberries and even raspberries with some sour candy, but the hops and especially the yeast are strong and dry here, in a good way. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong tartness up front from the funky yeasts with a light breadiness, but much more of the fruit flavours that seemingly come through that leads to the tartness and present an enjoyable sweetness that's really picked up on the end, after the dryness and tartness wear off. Aftertaste shows a good balance of light malt and more strong hops, but the yeast here is the real complexity factor with a great layer of tartness and funky aspects that come out and bring out the dryness, all from the yeast. Overall, a very enjoyable and surprisingly well-done beer that hits all the right aspects for the style, while also having some real hop bitterness and a dryness, but the sugars and especially the yeasts are great here. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Wegman's in Woodbrige, Virginia on 22-December-2021 for US$1,99 (part of a mixed six pack!) sampled at my house here in Washington on 01-January-2022 after driving home from vacation in Georgia and South Carolina.

12oz can from Hops & Bottles. Hazy golden pour, light head fades to thin layer. Fruity aroma, stone fruit, tropical with a touch of sourness. Taste follows this pattern with soft, sour edd and gentle fruity flavors

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is some melon and stone fruit hops. Flavor is more of a grapefruit hop and finishes super sweet. Decent but not a world beater.

Pour is a hazy peach with a large white head. Aroma is some generic fruity saltwater. Flavor is again some generic fruit flavor with a dry malt. Not very tart or salty which both are ok by me. Finish is gone in a second. Nothing great.

Bottle split at the Autumn Watford tasting, thanks to LKS, 24/09/21. Light black with a decent tan cap that dissipates edgewards. Nose is chocolate, nutty, dried fruit esters, spice, light roast, hazelnut. Taste comprises coffee bean, chocolate, dark malts, caramel, brown sugar sprinkle. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a whisper of alcohol. Not bad ... just comes across a touch thin overall.

Shared with the boys at BBT 11/2021. Med-thin body, surprisingly so. Med-high carbonation. Lots of malt flavours, crackers, biscuits, slightly nutty, caramelly, also chocolate, light coffee. This is combined with moderate pumpkin spice mix, it works together really well. Med-high sweetness, medium bitterness, med-light warmth. Rich, complex, intense, well balanced. Very good.

Aroma: initially hits with pumpkin spices, than chocolate and roasted character appears. Taste: chocolate, roasted malt, burnt character, pumpkin spices - cinnamon, nutmeg. Complex, tasty, great.
