Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

BBT visits Vienna. Tap at Hawidere. Washing cloth, oxidation, unpleasantly caramelly, astringent. Not exactly best - actually pretty bad.

From tap @ Hawidere Bier Burger Bar @ Drang nach Wien. Head is medium, white, good retention. Colour is amber, clear. Aroma is malty, bready, caramel. Taste is medium malty base, bready, caramel, grainy, weak bitterness, soft carbonation, quite boring all together, drinkable.

A yeastyish mrzen, decent malt complexity, on the sweeter side. Not bad but not grabbing me.

Undated canned at B. United, drunk 10/27/23. Clear, glowing amber. Small, butter-colored head recedes quickly to ring. Very bready. Some light hop spiciness, light fruit jam (strawberry and apricot). Breadiness calms down on the finish leaving more fruitiness and base malt. Clean. Earthy and spicy hop notes mix with a very round, borderline syrupy malt. Big depth, fairly sweet but balanced by hop and yeast. Intense and richly malted but mostly balanced. Lingering, light bitterness helps. They certainly did a good job with the mashing here. Pretty Heller bock-like.

New Style - Steinbier Bock. Not a UT style but new style none the less. Tastes more like a Bock than a Steinbier.

Thanks, Reuben B.
