Notes from May 2009 Baby growler from New Beer. Again, same DFH glass. Half inch of tan-ish cola head. Filtered, bright bourbon amber color. Very sparse, dotted lace. Salty, fat side ham that's just mildly smoked with a sweet wood. Maybe a touch mineral-ly & even Gouda-y. (I often find that Sly Fox tries their hand at too many things, not quite getting it right, but this is one of my favorites. Just an awesome smell to it.) Taste at first is more on the acrid side(think burning bark), even a little papery(when cold). Once it warms a touch, it's perceived more as a balancing chewy bitterness. Middle to end gets most of the hammy flavor. Sweet, salted, smoked, liquid pork. :) A little extra bitter char on the end there to close it out easier. Alcohol is there, but quite a distant thought. As expected, light hef on the body. Carbonation is a little too strong, (even after three weeks sitting in a bottle), but it works well with food. Maybe it's to keep the fat from congealing. :P

Notes from June 2009 Counter pressure growler from Bierkraft, filled a couple weeks ago. $16 for the fill, along with $9 for a tasty ham, cheese, & horseradish hero that I'm still burping up. :D Into my Sly Fox paperweight/tumbler it goes. A thick, luxurious pour. A couple inches of coffee creamer head over a cloudy 4C iced tea body with two scoops too many. Smell is unexpectedly full of melon, pungent wood, & sweet florals. Something curiously odd like lychee fruit. A bit of macerated honey & toast towards the back, but loaded with unavoidable amounts of soft tropicals. Maybe a little plastic, maybe. Frothy, turning syrupy mouthfeel. Heavy pine resin starts it off, but is followed with a granola-ish sweetness & a bunch of other residuals. More weirded-out fruit, but loads of sticky, bitter resin. The finish goes with some gum & Honey Nut Cheerios, ending just a bit drier then it was. Alcohol is somewhat tolerable out the gate, but becomes solvent-like once the beer warms up. Feels hotter then it should. Carbonation is a touch prickly, but low overall. Really hefty. Thick. I like it, but even with big dinner in front of me, I still have some left for breakfast. Price was a bit of a shock too, considering what other Sly Fox beers usually go for.

12 oz. can from Total Wine. Sunny pink hue? Nope! Pours an opaque, muddy orange-gold color with a tiny white head and poor retention. Zero lacing. Light lemonade aroma. The flavor has more raspberry taste than the aroma, finishing with a tart lemon bite. More of a tart fruit soda than a fruit beer. Too tart and not enough beer flavor for me. Light body. Medium carbonation. No bitterness.

16 oz. can from Total Wine - Naples, FL. Pours a cloudy (unfiltered) gold color with a white head and decent retention. Good lacing. Tangy pilsner malt aroma. Tastes more like a wheat ale versus a pilsner to me, with a weird tangy finish. Old can. Best by 9/25/23. Not so good. Medium body. Low carbonation and low bitterness. Gotta try a fresh can.

16 ounce can at Citizen's Bank Park during the break between Journey and Def Leppard sets. Medium gold pour. Frothy white head. Light bready malt aroma. Flavor is biscuity malt with a hint of sweetness. Some grassy hops on backend. Light and average. Good on this hot, humid evening, though.
