From a can this stuff looks viscous because of the head. Yes, nice fine foamy head goes rocky. Smells bready hop flowers. Quite strong, must be near 7%. Borders on the bitterness of an IPA, wew. So, if you like IPA ignore my numbers and try this one big dull kick in the jaw. Finish is long bitter medicine.

75cl bottle @ the Fourth Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Simon. The finale to a great evening of various, and at times bizarre, styles of beer. A beautifully complex and constantly evolving taste with bitter dark chocolate, burnt caramel and roasted elements.. an enticing, sultry blend. Just wish there was more to delve into.

On tap at trio in the outer banks. It is a clear golden color with a lot of effervescence and has a slight head. The stoma is sweet malty and tthe taste is a strong and bitter one that lingers on the tongue. Malty and biscuit overtones

On draft at Trio in Kill Devil Hills NC. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. White toast aroma. Flavors of caramel. Slight boozy finish. A nice one.

Last offering at the fourth Shrewsbury beer swap on 28th April 2014. A great beer to finish on. A 0.75 litre cork and caged beauty. Pours black with a good head of tanned foam. The beer is all about the over roasted malts and what they’ve done while resting in those barrels. Burnt, smooth yet bitter in nature, it packs a host of malty flavours, dark chocolate being the lead: add the woody notes and some Bourbon hints too. Very drinkable and warming, rich and filling. fortified me for the train journey and walk home.

Kicked the tap on this at the magic tree. Big head but normal yellow beer look underneath. Just smells like fresh beer, nothing special on the nose. A little bit of bitterness on the uptake and it remains a tad bitter thru the session. Practically flat. Warming sensations traveling down my throat. Not bad overall but could use a few more manners.

Cocoa and charred beef aroma, mild raisin hints. Mahogany, headless. Dry charcoal flavor, no fruity esters. Subtle kiss of grass and wood in the finish. Body is light, a little fizzy, alcohol not evident. A poundable stout porter.

Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines(style 7C). AROMA: predominant malt aroma. almost absent hop aroma and absent esters. APPEARANCE: Orange copper color, clear, ivory persistent and creamy head. TASTE: well balanced flavour between moderate bitterness and complex malt. dry finish. very low esters, no diacetyl. Finishes dry. very low hop flavours. PALATE: medium to light body and very smooth. no astringency. OVERALL: a very well balanced, bitter and malty ale. requires a bit more hop aromas and flavours.
