Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

Walnut nose, kind of hot. Clear cola, thin head. Medium body, lightly sweet, lightly hot. Roasted malt is dominant. Walnut and cola notes are present. Mild tobacco finish. Pretty neat.

12 oz. bottle. Color is deep ruby with thin ring of white head. Aroma is hints of dark fruit, molasses and caramelized sugar.
Flavor really is not enjoyable for me. The yeast or the malt is off. Old funky berries, molasses and astringent dark grain. Off bitter chocolate notes. Not sure if this is a bad bottle or just really pour brew. Pass.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 3/24/14
Aroma: The nose is sweet, with caramel malt, dough, spice, and some German yeast
Appearance: Pours a clear orange color with a creamy off-white head and some fairly strong lace
Flavor: Similar flavor component-wise, complex, rich, and sweet, with a light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full (leaning full), with a smooth feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting beer. I think they did a good job with this beer. There's a lot going on here, but it doesn't come off as muddled. Good to see a flavorful and interesting lager, we could use more of these in the American craft scene.

Huge citrus infusion here. Sharp and poignant lemon zest with some sugary malt. Finishes bitter and a little sour. Slightly opaque orange pour with ok head and lacing. Slick on palate. Cask at Churchkey.

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland Saturday Session 1 - 01/03/14. Pale golden with moderate off white spotting. Nose is pale malts, cereals, corn, pretty basic. Taste comprises caramel, pale malt, grassy pangs, lightly toasted bread, cereals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff, not ’hopped up’ which is what I normally find in US pils, not saying that’s a bad thing but this is truer to style.
