Description
February 2020, Brussels. We brew for the first time at home. We don't really know what we're doing yet. We think. We try. We make mistakes. We try to improve it as best we can. And then we stress throughout the fermentation.

We start microbrewery lessons at the EFP in Brussels and we brew dozens of tests before finalizing our first beer: the Fugushima.

Not currently having a standard brewing place meeting the highest of standards or sufficient financial means, we lend the recipe to a partner brewery (Brouwerij Anders, Halen, Limbourg) to start. By offering beers that represent who we are, we hope one day to be able to swim together in the hops and make you discover the fruits of our own production.

Impressive! Possibly the best Belgian ipa I’ve ever had. La Source has competition now!

pours hazy, fruitjuice-lookin blonde. Medium sized white head. Scent is expressive, fresh and summery, tropical fruits by the hops, classic NE style yeast. This surpasses expectations ! Taste is full, mild bitterness, very malty back, creamy MF. Summery, tropical, slightly citrus hops. Finally, a true NEIPA style brewed in BE (one of the few!) . Might be a bit fast-fading to international standards, but for national competitions, this can be put with the best ones ! promissing, and by far the best out of the 3 first beers I've tried by them.

pours clear, light blonde. Medium sized white head. Scent is grainy, fresh and crisp, mild earthy hop notes. Taste is semi-sweet , medium-mild bitter backbone. very malty, but more like pale specialty malts, than the typical pilsner malts, it seems. Fun fruity touch by the hops, but to go as far as calling this a hoppy lager, I think it should be more outspoken on the hops. Also a bit to sweet for me, for this type of beer. Misses some depth and complexity. All an all, a fun drinker in the sun, but nothing to seek out

Draught Small, fine yellowish ring over muddy ochre-orange beer; shards of lace. Citrus, green leaves and herbs (whiff of bog myrtle), citruspeel. Asafoetida, citruspeel, grapefruit and a jumble of hopesters. Bit vegetable frying oil. Medium bodied, quite oily-slick. Not very carbonated. Bit run-of-the-mill, dull-ish. A little more fruitiness might have worked miracles.

One of apparently two versions of a DIPA by Fugu, a newish beer producing company near Brussels; my can does not mention the "2" as in the picture above, but it does carry the same hops as this version (with Talus and Citra replacing the Amarillo and El Dorado of version 1), so I guess this entry is where my rating belongs. Thick and frothy, densely cobweb-lacing, egg-white, moussy head on a lightly hazed, warm orange-glowing apricot blonde beer with visible sparkling. Aroma of toasted onions, diesel (quite pronounced here, oddly), dried mandarin peel, lilies, not quite ripe papaya, crumbled biscuit, raw gherkin, pepino, dry cookies, hints of triple sec, nylon or rubber band and radish peel. Cleanly fruity onset, green mango, unripe mandarin, some pineapple and kiwano; medium carbonation, supple mouthfeel, rounded, fluffy. Dry cookie-ish and lightly biscuity maltiness soaked in green-fruity, dank and diesel-like, oniony and citrus peel-like hoppiness, bringing a relatively long spicy bitterness, but fruity juiciness is also retained, while alcohol remains well hidden. Pleasant enough DIPA, holding the middle between West Coast style and New England in a way. This brewer clearly has a tight connection with American craft beer and has let go of Belgian traditions completely - but does this well, for the beers I tasted so far. Very solid.

Hazy milky blond colour, white foam. Hoppy, lots of citrus, oranges, some floral notes. Rather sweet, little bitter finish.
