From a 500ml can, poured a dark colour with red highlights, forming a big foamy head with medium thickness, that shortly dissolves. Some lacing with average malty aromas. Kind of looks like Guinness, but mouthfeel is thin and smooth. Not too bitter, not too heavy. Just a bit nutty and roasted for flavours. An overall great session beer !

A mild, dark beer that sticks a little to the middle of the road for malty German beers in terms of flavor. I have had schwarzbiers so infrequently that the mild flavor was a bit of a surprise. The malt tastes fresh and much less like the stout/porter flavor that I expected from a beer of this color. Speaking of appearance, the beer is a very dark ruby brown with a creamy beige head. The feel is fairly creamy, and I like it, but the beer felt a bit thin. Then again, that could have been my expectation from the appearance. It’s certainly easy to drink.

Bottle. Pours with a black body and a tan head that slowly fades. Aroma of bread, raisins, oatmeal and soggy grains. Taste is cereal, dusty, chocolate and raisins. Lively bubbles, chalky and dryish.

500 ml bottle from the Co-op in Davis, CA. Pours black with a foamy 3-finger beige/tan head. Aroma of warm burnt malt. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Body a bit less than medium actually. Goes a little watery as the foam leaves. Flavor is slightly sweet burnt malt. It’s smooth. It has enough bitter to balance. It is a bit astringent. It finishes with bitter. This works well for me.

Standard Biergarten Meatpacking District 500ml draft ($8): Nearly black clear and clean body with a beige quickly dissipating lager head. Aroma is of roasted malts, lager straw, and some subtle German hops. Mouth feel is very nice. Maintains all the integrity of the lager with more robust flavor. Perfect on a hops day or cold I would think. Some chocolate and caramel notes make their respective appearances in there as well.

Pours amber gold with a large foamy off-white head. Aromas of light caramel and something grassy. Med. body with mildly foamy carbonation. Flavor is malty, but there is a good dose of herby/grassy hop. It finishes lightly bitter. Drinkable for sure.

~ 16 oz Pilsener glass draft pour at the Beer Authority in Lake City (Seattle), Washington. Tap Handle called this Köstritzer Lager. Pour is a clear golden yellow with a pretty one inch clean white head. Aroma is cereal grains, soft hop bite and mineral earthiness. Nice clean nose. Taste is the nose, gentle cereal grains along with the hop bite and mineral earthiness in the finish. Palate has nice carbonation and a thin to medium bodied. Really easy drinking, nice beer to accompany shopping.

19/03 0.5 l bottle. It poured dark reddish brown body with bigger brownish head. Weak burnt sugar and caramel aroma. Flavor was caramel and coffee malt, slightly acidic more than bitter, grainy. Fine, but strange. Thinner in body with bitterish roasted malt finish. Not bad, but nothing special and a little bit odd in negative way. So high rates definitely surprise me!

12 oz bottle. Poured a pitch black color with a small head. Aroma was pretty bland, boring. Nothing to really call home about. Slightly bitter. Not bad, but just boring.
