Together, the brothers founded in 1898 a brewery called Brasserie Hermans Frères. The brewery was nicknamed St.-Anna, in reference to the St.-Annendael cloister that was located across the street. Joseph was in charge of brewing the beer and John was in charge of distribution. He went around cafes bringing the beer to the customers.
Almost a century later, Joey and Marc Hermans are bringing Tipsy beer back to life!
They work with guest brewery BeerSelect who ensures that the beer is brewed with quality.

Zure afdronk, fruitig, beetje zoals oude kriek. Veel co2 in de mond. Nauwelijks schuim. Fris, goed doordringbaar. Goed spul.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A straw coloured pour with a loose white head; fruity yeast aroma; chewy pale malt body with some barley sugar and orange peel; then a fruity bitterness with some coriander before a warming finish. A pleasant tripel.

The blonde version of an alleged recreation of a ‘historic’ beer already brewed in the early twentieth century by the current owner’s great-grandfather if I am correctly informed – with that ‘original’ one being a dubbel and this ‘golden’ one being a present-day addition to the range. Snow white, large-bubbled, rather loosely knit, opening and irregular head on an initially clear, deep and pure yellow golden beer, turning misty and a tad peachy with sediment. Aroma of red apple, green pear, white bread, grass, dry cereals, old potatoes and vague background DMS (overcooked white cabbage). Sweet onset, ripe pear, red apple, light banana, quite sharply carbonated; smooth cereally pale malt sweetishness with honeyish residual sugars on top, balanced by a gentle grassy hop bitter tail. The sweetness dominates, though, and given the lack of inspiration or creativity here we can put this one away as just another pointless addition to the already vast ocean of interchangeable Belgian blondes and tripels, most of them justifying their existence by acting as ‘streekbieren’. Another entrepreneur cashing in on the beer hype by emphasizing story and package (label and name), rather than the beer itself.
