[At Jyske Øldage 2004, Kolding] A clear amber beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and quite flat.

Bottle Roasted veggie aromanotes. Dark amber, no head. Roasted vegetables again in the flavor, some nuts as well, adjuncts. Light tinny body. This is not a christmasbrew, and its not a proper Dunkel either

Bottle Chestnut , brown creamy head. Interresting aroma: Fruity notes, strawberries, metallic dirt, nuts, some roasted edges. Flavor is much more one-dimensional - some roasted sweet malt notes on a otherwise thin metallic body.

Dark red brown, creamy, not very stable, brown head. A bit roast coffee in the aroma, but also dark sugary notes and a hint burned vegetables. Burned toast and caramelized sugar dominate the flavor. Rather lightbodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Burned sweet aftertaste. Rather poor stout.

Dark brown, with a reddish hue; medium yellow-brown head. Grainy, malty nose (dark malts), and dark fruit, dried dates, and dark freshly-baked bread, yeasty. Bitterish-burnt, nearly stout-like sourness (reminds me somehow of ergot infected rye - by God hope I’m wrong) at first. Quite malty, and again bready. Poorer, more unidimensional than the nose indicated. Medium bodied, bit caramel-like, certain slickness. A bit unidimensional, after all. Like something a midwife would bestow on lactating mothers... unless that ergotamine thing...

Bottle. Very dark brown colour. Light head that doesn’t last long. Flavour is light but pleasant. Roasted but not very complex. 5 3 6 3 13

Bottle, 6.0%. Roasty, but not very bitter. Malty, dark bread notes. But quite watery, especially for the ABV. 5 3 5 3 12

Bottle. Dark, nut-brown colour, small head. Roasted, sweet, slightly metallic aroma. Roasted, slightly sweet flavour without much aftertaste. Pleasant enough, but not a very challenging beer.

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 6.0%). Very dark reddish brown colour, moderate tan head. Moderate coffee aroma. Flavour and aftertaste is lightly roasted coffee and wet cardboard with a hint of damp basement and catpiss. I’m not particularly fond of wet cardboard and catpiss. I’d probably still prefer this beer to Vestfyen’s pilsener, but that doesn’t take much. As far as stout goes, there are better alternatives.

Vestfyen gets points for trying, but although this might be their best beer, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. And at the price there are many beers I’d rather drink. And ordinary stout with no personality.
