Description
Alaska has a rich history of brewing. From the explorers of the 1700s through the Gold Rush, many a thirsty Alaskan has been able to enjoy locally made beers.

In 1986, 28-year-olds Marcy and Geoff Larson reignited that tradition when they opened the Alaskan Brewing Company, the 67th independent brewery in the country and the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed here during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber recipe to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaskan beers reflect Juneau’s local brewing history and innovation.

12oz can. Doesn't have the appearance of a hazy at all. Doesn't really have the tone either, muted and sweet I suppose. Green onion, garlic in the aroma, quite unimpressive there. Really weak offering, like a sub standard brewpub example of a hazy in 2017. Not good on any level.

Can. Clear 18k gold pour with a big foamy white head that has decent retention.. The aroma is light with mixed citrus, pine and malts. The taste is mild grapefruit, oranges, lemons, and pine. Bitterness provided by the pine resins. The palate is medium and crisp. Finishes long and dry. Overall: decent, a solid IPA

19.2 oz. can from Total Wine, San Antonio, TX. Pours a clear gold color with a very large off-white head and excellent retention. Good lacing. Mild hoppy aroma. Mild hops and bitterness too. Not juicy. Tastes more like a hoppy amber ale. Still more bitter than I prefer, but more drinkable than I expected. Medium body and medium carbonation. The 6.8% ABV is very well hidden.

A name change apparently, I have a 12 oz can of Alaskan Kolsch, same ABV according to the label. I believe I found this beer at a Total Wine in Dallas, it is cooled off and going into a glass now. A fully transparent, gold-yellow liquid with a momentary top of very fine, very white bubbles. The nose is citrus and grain, unsurprising for the style. I take a taste and get mostly lemon, white bread, a bit of yellow fruit sweetness, malt and find it just slightly bitter. Somewhat better than expected but then I do find Kolsches an easily approachable style of beer.
