Cask at PoW, Farnborough. A hint of apple vinegar to the aroma. Bright gold. Frothy but blotchy white head. Initially malty and a tad sour, before it gains a molasses sweetness. Light to medium bodied. Watery. Flat. Abrupt finish. The current session beer at the PoW, which is fitting. Easily drinkable due being easily downable. Not much to it.

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - stewed apple and lemon. Taste - more of the same. The apple is sweet upfront then a bit tart. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - decent enough. Glad I tried it like!

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - pine and lavender. Some chocolate Iโm the background. Taste - more pine and general green notes. Dark chocolate but dominated by a kinda burnt molasses. Charcoal at the very end. Palate - close to medium bodied with a dry middle section. This continues through the finish. Overall - not all the elements Iโd expect from a black ipa. It is like a hopped dry stout. Nice.

Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 10/3/2017. Near black in colour, with a tight, off-white, head. Some chocolate notes, blackcurrants, slightly toasty malts and a touch of leafy hop before a dryish finish. A good dark beer.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured mid brown with an average sized pale beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, nut, caramel, chocolate and bread. Medium sweetness, quite heavy bitterness. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is roasted and chocolate.

(Cask at White Horse, Parsonโs Green, London, 26 Nov 2016) Black colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity nose with coffee, chocolate and red fruit. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, red fruit and sweetish hints of port wine in a finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Cask-conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol 19/2/2017. Deep gold in colour with a slight, white, head. Stone fruits, leafy hops, lager malts, some honey character and a decent, bitter, finish. Fine.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. A glossy, opaque, peaty brown pour with a tight coffee coloured head; aroma of well roasted malts; smooth, milky and dry in the mouth with a toasty malt taste and a fresh herbal bitterness; then a dry lactic finish with lingering spicy hops. Perhaps more a Porter than a Black IPA.
