Description
Controlling the flavour of a beer is much like controlling energy – it requires scientific knowhow, the right equipment and a bit of an appetite for adventure.

OGV Taproom has been developed by the team at OGV Energy, a well-established media group within the energy industry. Through the growth and development of OGV Energy, Director and staff members are lucky enough to travel to many different locations for industry events and brand development. It was on our travels we discovered a variety of craft beers and breweries across the world, sparking a desire to create our own brand back home, in Aberdeen.

Keg at OGV taproom. It pours clear golden with a thick, frothy white head. The aroma is fresh, bready, cereal, grain, biscuit, grass, pissy, leafy and sponge cake. The taste is crisp, dry, creamy mouth feel, grass, leafy, herbal, biscuit, cracker, doughy bread, sponge cake and some soft sweetness with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Well rounded and crisp. Enjoyable. One of their best to date.

Bottle. Gusher. Hazy amber body with flecks swirling beneath an off-white head. Lively carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of lavender, crushed paracetamol and orange. Flavour of lemon and blood orange. Thin body with a frothy mouthfeel. Very fizzy. Tasty but rough around the edges.

Bottle from Westhill Service Station. It pours lightly hazy amber - brown with a medium, fluffy white head. The aroma is floral, sweet, caramel, biscuit, some orchard fruits, sappy pine and grain. The taste is firmly dry, bitterness, piney, sappy, resin, floral, touch of caramel/toffee, twist of citrus, slightly soapy, digestive biscuit and spice with a dry finish. Light to medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Feels like an old skool home brew British style IPA with some piney hops. Fair.

Bottle from OGV. It pours opaque black with a a tiny bubbly dark tan cap. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, fruity whisky, cherry, chocolate cake, cookie dough, black forest gateaux, burnt toffee, toasted marshmallow, fruit cake and rocky road. The taste is slick, oily, rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, dried fruits and berries, cherry in particular, vanilla, fruit cake, black forest gateaux, toasty cake, cookie dough, fruity whisky, burnt toast, earthy, light umami, liquorice, jam, spice and some alcohol warmth through the jammy fruit finish. Fulsome body, touch of carbonation and oily mouth feel. Flavorful and unctuous. Plenty of whisky character. A touch more carbonation would really elevate this, but it is enjoyable as is.

Bottle shared with Kenny. It pours hazy dirty blonde with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is pretty unique... vanilla, damp hay, big whisky, honeyed porridge, stone fruits, dried mango and apricot, nougat, almond and perfumed oak. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, tannin, damp oak, intense whisky character, cacao nibs, fudge, whisky fudge, fruity, bruised banana, charred wood and floury bread. Medium body and light carbonation. A novelty for sure. Whisky overtakes the base beer for sure. Intense, but fun.

Bottle from OGV. It pours hazy peachy - gold with a small amount of bubbly lacing. The aroma is rather lovely.... juicy, tangy, bright stone fruits, peachy fun times, orange fruit jelly, good hit of whisky, oak, dull vanilla, dessicated coconut, liquorice and sherbet. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, puckering, zingy, sour peach, juicy stones fruits, apricot, persimmon, nectarine, some light citric acidity, punk grapefruit, gummy bears/wine gums, dry oak and whisky. Medium body a soft carbonation. Lovely stuff overall. Good sour fruits and whisky. Just let down a touch by the lack of carbonation, but it still works.

Bottle from OGV taproom. It pours clear reddish - brown with a decent frothy beige head. The aroma is sweet and juicy, tangy raspberry upfront, jammy, brown bread, ripe banana, banana bread, fruit cake and pie crust. The taste is firmly dry, decent hit of woody bitterness, bitter - sweet, character, nutty, raspberry is more subtle than aroma, it brings a tartness, still has that fruit cake vibes, touch of spice, toasted brown bread and earth with a drying finish. Average body and average carbonation. Pretty decent. Would be nice on cask I reckons.

Bottle from OGV. Need a chisel to get into this sucker! Not much sign of fizz as it opens...It pours jet black with pretty much no head. The aroma is impressive....rich and unctuous, big intoxicating whisky character, chocolate, caramel, toffee, mars bar, toffee crisp, rocky road, dark fruits, jammy character, wagon wheels, vanilla, bounty bar and whisky soaked oak. The taste is slick, oily, slick, rich roasted malt, plenty of jam, chocolate brownie, rocky road, wagon wheels, Tunnocks teacakes, vanilla, coconut, plenty of whisky, whisky soaked oak, some spice, warming alcohol, some charred wood and light tannin with a warming bitter - sweet whisky finish. Fulsome body, low / no carbonation and slick mouth feel. A shame this hasn't got much condition as it has plenty of lovely whisky character. Almost great, but still really rather enjoyable.
