Description
Alvinne is a 1200hl microbrewery in Flanders, Belgium. It has become an official brewery in 2004 and is located in the village of Moen, at the edge of the Mortagne touristic area and in the area where the historic breweries of the old Flemish Brown beerstyle are situated.
Their own yeast strain is called ‘Morpheus’ and was the reason to start experimenting with mixed fermentation, resulting in sour ales. Alvinne’s main mission is now to create innovative sour beers through a new style of Flemish blond sours by using the mixed fermentation method. You could call it the missing link between Oud Bruin and Lambic. Because of this, Alvinne has gained international attention and respect.
We already experimented with over 30 different kinds of fruits, herbs, plants, berries, flowers and vegetables. Next to the sour range, Alvinne has an interesting beer list that were aged on carefully selected used barrels, such as Cognac, Porto, Sherry, Calvados, Brandy, Red Wine and White Wine. Since 2018, we have started our own Membership “Alvinne’s Fellowship Of Exceptional Ales” to give our core fans the priority to get hands on our very exclusive and limited beers.

From tap at Uiltje Bar, Haarlem. Aroma is strong lingonberries, tart red fruits, soft smokey notes, and a touch of bubblegum. Flavour is moderate sour with a hint of sweetness. Body is medium. Strange and interesting brew, though the lingonberries carry a slight chemical element that shouldn't be present in such a 'raw and natural' beer. More curiousity than household beer.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. 12.8% abv. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, red wine, oak, vinous notes, brown sugar, raisins, and dried fruits. Flavour is fairly sweet with a certain tartness. Body is medium. I wasn't particularly fond of the base beer but the wine barrel aging really elevated it to another level.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is tart fruits, oak, rhubarb, some malt, grapes, citrus, light malt. Flavour is tart and medium sour with a little sweetness to balance things out. Body is medium. More gentle in flavour than regular Sofie, with some sweetness. Also more complex. Anyway, it's very good.

From tap at Borefts 2018. Aroma is tons of tart plum with big stone fruits and notes of vinegar. Bold almost acidic sourness, medium body. Pretty smashing Plum Sour, Alvinne does it again. I seem to love Cuvée Sofie in every form.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is tart dark fruits with roasted malt, chocolate, grapes, overripe fruits, tobacco, prunes, and a little coffee. Tart and medium sour flavour, medium body. No sign of the 10%. I'm not particularly fond of Sour Stout but when I approach this as an Alvinne Sour with dark roast and chocolate, it works wonders.
