An amber beer with a thich light brown head. The aroma is malty with slight notes of both hops and caramel. The flavor is very sweet and matly, but also with strong notes of caramel, leading to a dry woody and bitter end.

[Bottled, thanks chris_o!] Clear amber, small creamy head. Powerful citric grapefruit aroma. Sweet, fruity, chewy and caramelly with full body. Medium bitterness. An IPA dominated by aromatic hops.

12 oz bottle - Pours very dark brown with a moderate head and some lacing. The roast malts dominate the aroma, but it’s not as assertive as many imperial stouts. That’s a hint of what’s to come. While the flavor makes for a solid stout, as others have pointed out, it’s really mild for an impy. The body is moderately thick. There’s some hops in the finish. It makes for pleasant enough drinking, but ratebeerians have very high expectations of the imperial stout style and this lacks intensity.

Bottle. Drank it a while ago, but realized that it was the ESB and not the IPA version of this. Dark amber color, white head. Malty, bitter, and well rounded.

Looks like an american pils... golden color, effervescent, light head. Aromas are weak-of honey and grass. Flavor picks up honey-like sweetness and runs with it. Not much else going on. Maybe a little banana/cloves if you’re feeling generous and searching for something. I find it a little hard to believe that there is 8% ABV here, but that may be the most redeeming quality of an otherwise mediocre offering.

Aromas are fairly crisp of hops and a bit of a sweet caramel/toffee background with a bit of apple juice type fruit. Appearance is a dark orange/amber with a pretty substantial foamy head that has a slightly yellow haze to it. Flavor is quite different that a lot of US IPA’s in that it is grain heavy up front and the heavy hopping develops just a hair later. Very nice and a little different in the hop flavoring as well.

Cloudy, light orange pour with soft, white head that doesn’t last long. Flowery bouquet with grapefruit and orange aroma filling in around the edges. Faint smell of toast, plastic. The flavor is full of hops, nicely balanced. Juicy, spicey, citrusy — orange peel, grapefruit, perfume. Not overly bitter. Peppery finish. The medium body is moderately sticky leaving an aftertaste of light floral soap.

Let me just say firstly, that I had this last summer on draught and it was NOTHING like this beer that I had in the bottle. Furthermore, clipper city beers seem to be MUCH better on draught than in the bottle.
This 12oz bottle did not have it’s BB date notched, but is fresh off the shelves here in Mass. Shared with SuIIy on 6/8/06.
Large dark beige to light tan head shows moderate retention at best, receding to cover and ring fairly rapidly. Deep brown but clear and plenty of dark crimson notes. Says bottle conditioned, but it still seems like there is an artificial carbonation addition. If it truly is bottle conditioned, it seems like they toss in about 2 yeast cells.
Nose is heavy, fruity hops. Strong grass and then tons of resin/citrus that bites and bashes its way to the front of the picture, fending off any challengers (read: malt). Strong oranges and unripened pears, with pine, linger. Some caramel brings up the rear, but it’s timid, to say the least.
Strong hops again, in the flavor, would be an understatement. It’s not punishing acidic bitterness, and it’s quite nicely done, fruity, lively and all, but there is just no beer behind it. Watery, loose texture to the extreme and seems like a strong brown ale. Filtered, no oomph, no thick malts that you can sink your teeth in to (can’t even nick your gums here). Some very light char is the extent of the malt depth. Low carbonation, no alcohol noted.

Cask at Caliente on 05/17/2010. Cloudy orange body with a small frothy white head. Spicy fruit and citrus aroma. Sweet spice and citrus fruit flavor.
