Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a rustic hazy dark orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dies off immediately. Super subtle lace slides into the beer.
The aroma blends estery fruity malts to some butterscotch and caramel and toffee qualities. Slight nuttiness and some vanilla.
The flavor yields to the sweetness initially. Butterscotch/caramel/toffee blend hits against some nuts and scorches the fruity malts a bit. In turn, a big malty aftertaste flows into a sticky malty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body leaning closer to the light side, honestly. Carbonation feels good. ABV feels a bit lower than expected.
Overall, decent beer that could be swallowed again, but as an American strong ale, it lacks hop bitterness. I would say leans towards the English side.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing sticking and then sliding down.
The smell had the earthy / English hops up front and eventually drawing out a light sweet English soapy maltiness.
The taste was there as it was English soapy sweet and bready with a light earthy hops about it.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was only as sharp as an English IPA could be.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good English IPA worthy to have again. Pass the fish n’ chips please.

A dark amber IPA with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, a woody solvent with green peppers, veggies, astringent. In mouth, a caramel malt with burned notes, herbal hops, nutty notes, something like solvents, weird. Tasted with ProbstBlueRibbon, July 7, 2012.

Bottled:
Pours a dark amber colour with a mid-sized head. Aroma is sweet toffee with a little bit of hops. Somewhat thin mouthfeel. Flavour starts off in a sweet and malty way but ends in a hoppy bitter way. Not too exciting.

Clear copper coloured body with a nice amber glow and a thick, luscious tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt, nuts, toffee and everything BUT hops! Medium-bodied; Assertive caramel and toffee at first followed by nuts and malt, but again - where are the hops? Aftertaste shows a very very very small amount of grassy hops, but nothing anywhere close to an APA, let alone an IPA worth amount of hops. Overall, a pretty bad beer for the style of course - there aren’t any hops, but a decent Amber Ale, if they labeled the beer as such. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Colonial Spirits in Acton, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 28-October-2010.
