Description
LOC Brewery brews quirky, craft beers that are a voyage of discovery for the taste senses. It is our ambition to conquer the world with this. LOC Brewery wants to experiment with flavours, herbs, fruit and even let beers mature in wooden barrels.

LOC Brewery is an initiative of Roy Maas (he left in 2018), Erwin Schellekens, Daniel Tano and Paul Cools. The four know each other because their children were in the same class, so they met in the schoolyard. In December 2014, LOC Brewery started brewing small amounts of beer. Since then, brewing has accelerated to meet the demand from tastings and events. The first beer was launched in June 2015.

Draught @ RBBSG 2017. Thanks Klaas! Unclear yellow color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, hops, a bit grassy, grassy bitter. Decent body and carbonation. Solid.

Collab of Totem with LOC, intended as a ’true’ New England IPA, with all the right hops for this style and even fermented with yeast actually originating from Vermont. Tightly paper lacing, creamy, eggshell-white head, equally cloudy (but not murky) straw blonde robe with olive greenish hue - the looks are promising. So is the aroma: a wave of ripe mango, granadilla, green onions, stale lime juice, soggy white bread, maracuja, pink grapefruit juice, guava. Lively fruity onset, a basket of lush exotic fruits, mango, guava and passion fruit, sweetish and sourish as it ought to be in this style with the right mouthfeel: softly carbonated, fluffy and creamy. Soft doughy and bready background elegantly supports a very aromatic finish, teeming with exotic fruitiness, tropical orchids, citrus zest and sweet onions, hoppiness galore but no harsh bitterness; ends as juicy and aromatically fruity-hoppy as any ’true’ NEIPA by Alchemist, Trillium or Tree House. This may very well be the first completely successful attempt at this trendy style in the Netherlands - but since Totem was equally involved, I’d love to regard this as the first completely successful Belgian NEIPA as well... Klaas is justly proud of this, this is a masterpiece in terms of ’truth to style’.

At Ghent Beer Festival 2017. Cloudy black with a thin, tan head. The aroma contains roasted malt, roasted coffee, toffee, smoke, licorice and wood. It tastes medium sweet and light bitter with a long, roasted finish. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Good enough, nothing more to say.

Apparently served very fresh. Fermentation had finished earlier in the day. Aroma and flavour have light tropical fruit and also some resinous hop notes.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled draft @ GBF 2017. Dark brown, creamy tanned head. Nose is lovely liquorice, cacao, roast, basic heavy liquorice. Taste is herbal cacao, liquorice, too much plastic, decent but not really my style. Cacao, black liquorice, black bread body. Decent even if not really to my preferences.
