Description
At Son of Man, we work to perfect a singular craft. Inspired by the generations of cidermakers in Northern Spain, we have set out to make exceptional Basque-style cider. Son of Man cider is wild. It reflects the stunning landscape of the Columbia River Gorge and the bold spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Native yeasts, Oregon apples, and spontaneous ferment. Unfiltered and unfined. Our Basque-style cider is as natural as it gets and tastes like the time and place it comes from. Son of Man celebrates adventure: mountaineering, fly fishing, getting muddy, and grilling over a wood fire. Share a bottle, or three, with friends around the table. Show Less

16oz can from Volcanic Bottle Shop. Cloudy, dishwater pour, fizzy head. Light, tart aroma of apples. Taste is tart up front, apples after. Feels thin, fast finish.

12oz single randomly @Appalachian, where they usually don't try very hard to put out very many ciders. Pint glass @home. Hazy pale, weak head. Twangy, orange-lemon, some cantaloupe & barn funk. Taste is melon-laced yogurt sour, Sidra-adjacent, some green pepper. Juicy-tart & whisper quiet bitterness in the middle. Finish is creamy with a passe bitter edge. Medium-low carb, strong acid, semi-sweet, mellow bite. Pass.

Single can from Press online. Pint glass @home. Hazy, dull gold, mostly still pour. Yeasty, citrusy, zesty nose. Taste is bittersweet & sharp. Wine-y, yeasty, veggy & decently zesty & soapy on the tail. Surprisingly cleaner then their other stuff. Spritzy carbonation, very thin body, tart. Now on my short list of decent west coast blenders. Liked.

$8.80 pint can from Appalachian. $26 4-pack is also an option. Mojito glass @home. Clear, jellied, dusty pale gold, still pour. Sour, phenolic, plastic, strong pineapple vinegar nose. More white wine, less Sidra. White wine vinegar, earth, cream, mild acid, thin sour apple water. Really watered down. Lo carb, creamy, sour vinegar. Pass.

12 oz. can, pours a hazy blonde with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out barnyard funk and dusty apple skins. Flavour is dry, with plenty of tart, dry apple skins, and a decent horse blanket character. Pretty impressively close to an authentic Spanish sidra. Maybe not as funky or deep, but nicely made.

On tap at Little Beast - SE Division, pours a cloudy muddled blonde, no head. Aroma brings out a nice funky character, tart apples, and some apple core. Flavour is full of apple core, a little funk, and puckering apple skins. Lots of apple core. Does not have the funk that I'd want from a Basque cider, nor the carbonation. Disappointing.
