6/VII/19 - on tap @ DOK Beer Festival (Gent), BB: n/a - (2019-1007) Thanks to all my beer friends for sharing today's beers!
Pretty cloudy dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: good, lots of chocolate, nice roast, some banana, sweet, caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice roast, caramel, sweet and sugary stuff, coffee, carmel, very nice, quite some alcohol. Aftertaste: more alcohol, some banana, very good, pretty roasted, more alcohol.

Nice golden colour, white creamy foam. Rather lively carbonation. Notes of peach, apples, dried herbs, tea. Rather dry and bitter, some sweet notes.

24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Beer more or less commissioned by a 'spiritual artist' based in Brasschaat, with mate & yarrow. Called such because she always tries to see the positive side of things. Okay. Pours clear golden with a lasting, thin, unstable, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of soap, perfume, flowers, kitchen herbs (thyme, dill, probably the mate at work here too), apricot, apple peel, orange, dark honey. Taste is medium fruity sweet, notes of apricot, pineapple & apple next to caramel & honey but not overly sugary; light to medium spicy bitter then, pepper & grass in balance with tea leaves & garden herbs; touch of flowers & sourish lime in the back. Dryish, grassy hoppy finish, more spices & honey. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Okay, balanced, the herbs work here, I'm also glad it's not as corny as its name.

24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Clear pale golden with a quickly thinning, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe peach, melon, pineapple, banana, wheat, grain, yeast, bit dank & cheesy. Taste is medium fruity sweet, apple, peach & pineapple supported by yeast, white bread & a sourish lemony edge, medium spicy bitter too with some pepper & grain, faint white grape. Dryish, grassy hoppy finish, lingering yellow fruit, some honey, yeast, and slightly wry white wine-like alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation (effectively too much). To me, this doesn't really provide added value compared to the regular version - just more carbonation.

24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Clear pale golden with a lasting, thin, frothy, white head; irregular lacing. Aroma of yellow apple, green banana, unripe pear, white greap, breadcrust, wheat, soap, pepper. Taste is medium fruity sweet, quite estery, notes of banana, pear & apple with accents of honey & white bready; light to medium grassy bitter core has coriander, pepper, straw, some 'crude' grain, and sourish wheat & soap in the back. Dryish, grassy hoppy finish, more sourish wheat, banana, bread, and warming, almost wry, gin alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Expected more from this 'Grand Cru' - not that noble, but still good.

24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Cloudy black, quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma of burnt toast, cigar ash, burnt caramel, blackcurrant, raisin, mocha, roasted peanut, walnut, earth, chicory, chocolate powder. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite nutty next to hints of burnt caramel & chocolate, and medium roasted bitter with roasted peanut, toast, tobacco, balanced by dark fruits (blackcurrant, fig) and vague umami soy. Dryish, earthy hoppy finish, more toast, tobacco, caramel, and somewhat wry gin-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Easily one of the best beers at the festival for me. Plain good.

330ml bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Pours a deep misted amber, frothy, thin off-white sheet atop. Aroma sees caramelised malt, a touch boozy. Taste is fairly light for the strength, certainly not too much body to this. Gentle caramel shades, poky booze, mild sweet malts, overripe banana hints, dried dark fruits.. but generally not too much sticking out about this. Drinkable, if a bit forgettable, and not really sure what its trying to achieve.

The basic version of this newish quad, of which I had a cognac infused version already last Summer... Bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal, shared with Goedele. Slow gusher, but manageable. Pale greyish white, small-bubbled, medium thick, papery-lacing, quickly dissolving head, retaining thinly but consistently around the edge; misty ruddy bronze robe with warm vermillion hue. Aroma of fresh figs, hard caramel candy, 'jenever', hazelnut, some wet dog, cold tea, dried banana, chewing gum, medlar, soggy sandwiches, straw, dry old liquorish candy. Fruity onset, dried banana and apricot notes, banana peel, brown sugary sweetness but nothing overly cloying, medium sharp carbonation, rounded, bit glueish mouthfeel, slightly resinous. Nutty and brown-bready malt body, hard caramelly edges, sweet with some coriander seed spiciness in the end but not over the top, light spicy phenolic notes, herbal tea-ish hop bitterish effect enhanced by a glow of 'jenever'-like alcohol. Caramelly malt sweetness lingering. Decent quad, but very standard and rather predictable.
