Description
Brewing high-quality beer, without excessive alcohol content, is what itβs all about. The name Sonnen Hill comes from Sonne, which translates to sun and our family name Hill.
Sonnen Hill was founded in 2017 and we started brewing beer in 2018. For our first two years we were a very small operation and only distributed products to bars and restaurants across Ontario. In 2020, we opened our bottle shop in the height of the pandemic and now sometimes send beer to other provinces across Canada and countries in Europe and Asia. We are family-owned and -operated and are a small team of passionate individuals who work very hard to produce the quality products that we do.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of spicy pepper, rustic farmhouse yeast, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp, with a nice spicy yeast character, some gentle black pepper, and a little funk. Dry and rustic, with a good saison yeast profile. Very good.

750mL bottle, courtesy of wilco (thanks Mike), pours a fairly clear blonde with a medium white head. Aroma brings out mixed wild bugs, gentle apricot, and rustic saison yeast. Flavour is lively, with lots of bright apricot, wild bugs, rustic saison yeast, and some champagne-like effervescence. Lively carbonation, with the apricot melding nicely with the bugs. Very nicely made.

Bottle: Poured a pale-yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some good amount of lacing. Aroma of rustic malt notes with some light peppery yeast notes and floral undertone is quite enticing. Taste is a highly drinkable mix of rustic malt with some peppery yeast notes and some floral undertones with a dry finish. Body is about average with great carbonation. Highly drinkable saison with nice level of complexity.

Can ordered from Cloudwater. Fruity and vinous aroma. Hazy pale gold. Bubbly white head soon disappears. Light-medium sour - matches the aroma. Tart but juicy. Some underlying bitterness moreso into the finish. The latter takes the edge off the former. Light bodied. Slick if thin. Fizzy carbonation. Dry finish, a tad astringen. Light and refreshing - deceptively simple.
