14/VIII/23 - on tap as “IPA Cider” @ Kavka Oudaan (Antwerp), BB: n/a (2023-446)
Cloudy pale yellow hybrid, small creamy bit irregular white head, pretty stable, a bit adhesive leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of fresh green apples, apple skin, a little metallic, not getting any hops here. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: lots of fresh green apples, pretty bitter, hoppy, grassy, very dry, refreshing, decent, but not quite sure what to make of it. It’s hoppy, but there’s no typical aromatic hop characteristics of an IPA, just the hop bitterness.

Bottle at the Northener. Clear light golden. Soft funky, light chemical, alcohol, watery. There’s some apple but not much. The smell is decent but the rest is very poor imho, way too far fermented and therefore very rough. More like cidre de distillation.

Pours clear, lighter yellow. Scent is simple, sweet apples but also fairly dry fermented. Not that complex though, due to the variatals (not) used. Taste is dry, tad acidic, not sour though. Simple apples, not bad, but a bit boring. very mild on the skins, even milder on the funk. Meh..

Pours clear, pale lemongold. Scent is clear on the ginger, thin base. Bit lost to the ginger perhaps. Lemon still shines trough a bit. Taste is mildly dry, ginger remains very clear, overpowering even, bringing some spice. Less dry, bit sweet perhaps, mild lemonade feel due to the ginger and lemon. Bit soapy, one might say. Not loving the combo. The base (actual cider) is lost to the additions.

Pours a very clear, pale lemongold. Scent is very earthy, tad soapy. Taste is full, better balance than the nose promissed, but the base seems far to one-dimentionnal for actual balance. Less earthy-but still a bit- than the aroma. Not great, perhaps ciders from Jonagold apples just doesn't work, as expected?
