3/10/2020. Bottle at the Torun GP bottle-share, from Morrison's, Ipswich. Pours clear bright gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma of grain, sweet malt, fruit, buttery caramel. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Moderate body, slight creamy texture, soft carbonation. Looked good, not bad overall

Bottle, from historic notes, source not recorded. Poured clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma was sweet, malty, syrupy, caramel and dried fruits. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, slight sticky texture, soft carbonation. Better than expected.

Many thanks to Nathalie for providing the bottle! Pours clear dark golden with a thin, foamy, white head. Weak aroma of plain malt, honey, dish washer, white bread. Taste has sweet malty honey & bread, a bit grainy, bit herbal; yeasty, grainy finish. Light to medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Nothing really happening here.

Bottle from Asda. Deep, ruddy, brown in colour, with a tight and fothy, off-white, head. Aroma of brown sugar, burnt toffee red berries and a hint of leafy hop. Flavour started with similar sweetness and some chocolate depth, before full and slightly toasty malts, dried fruits and liquorice. The finish was warming and moderately bitter. A lot going on and pleasant for it.

Cask @ Morley Cheeks, Chorlton. Golden and hoppy ale with a nice easy texture and easy strength. Possible rebrand or blended version of something else Holts but not sure.

Bottle at home – from ASDA a few weeks ago. Noy much in the nose of this one – just a vague maltiness. Pours the classic “bitter brown” with a strong off-white head. In the mouth the first thing that strikes is the sharpness – very piquant. Some fruitiness behind it but not much. Finish is dry and bitter. Not sure why this is called a brown ale – I can’t find anything to suggest it isn’t a standard bitter !

Cask (handpump) @ #MBCF20, [ Manchester Beer & Cider Festival 2020 ], Manchester Central Convention Complex, Windmill St, Petersfield, M2 3GX Manchester, Great Manchester, England.
[ As Holts Fiesta Express ].
ABV: 4.9%. Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy - fizzy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, grass. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average to long duration, sweet malt, pale malt, fruity malt, light grass. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20200124]

Cask @ Gas Works Brewbar, Manchester. Clear blonde with a head. Certainly a lager in character but a definite cask texture with the latter subduing the former, and the ale is decent for it.

Cask, third shared with Finn at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival, Brewery Microbars. A fawn-coloured head to a near-black body. Mid-sweet malty aromas, hints of caramel. Mixed taste profile of earthy malts and caramel backed by dark fruits. Slightly roasted ending. good depth. Decent. (2nd day of the festival, 23.01.2020).
