Third of a pint at the Shrewsbury CAMRA Beer Festival on 25th September 2025. Bright amber body, soft white crown. Malty with an orchard fruit undertone, got more bitter and dry as you got into it.

Very slightly hazy pale gold with a frothy white head and a citrus hop aroma. Light and fresh with fruit hop and citrus bitterness, finishes dry and bitter.

Cask at Magnet, Stockport. Pours almost black with a sizeable foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has roasted malts and coffee with hints of dark fruit. In the mouth there is a brief burst of creamy sweetness before bitter roasted malts come through. These then give way in turn to tart blackcurrant plus traces of liquorice and underlying coffee texture leading to a decidedly dry finish. This is decent – a beer of many parts which somehow hang together well.

I got to use a pissoir in Dieppe last year - quite good fun! No little nap needed after this golden coloured one, still well awake. It's a standard lager really, easy strength, nothing much more to particularly say about it.

G.I. Joe's team's special operations and combat expert is codenamed Night Fox. This Nightfox is a dark brown colour, quite a gritty texture despite the obvious chocolate and vanilla mix in both aroma and taste, that provides plenty of flavour, with quite a full-bodied taste for its strength.

Wakey Wakey tap beer, I just walked in through the connecting door from the adjacent Flying Horse Hotel after exhausting the beers I wanted there . Strong tasting but equally tropical fruity, especially in aroma in this respect. Pretty much a quintessential IPA in modern times.

Deadication beer to King Louis I of Naples, he died on this day in 1362 probably of the plague brought into Europe by fleas napping on the back of rats!! This Ratnap is black with depth and density in the palate, and texture despite only light roasted aroma and taste. Mildly sticky-sweet.

Forty Winks is the name of a now lost silent film from 1925 that although is a comedy does bring up the issue of the USA west coast defences in uncertain times. The 10 additional winks for this brew are not lost, it's a pretty good mild ale with plenty of flavour with very mild chocolate evident.
