MAL trip: day 7/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: very unfortunate: caramel meets old socks. Appearance: semi-opaque copper with minimal lacing. Palate: light-bodied and slick, softish carbonation; lingering malty finish. Taste: lightly bitter, not especially malty, some caramel, butter. Very sessionable and, according to the staff at Chicken & Beer, their most popular style.

MAL trip: day 7/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: barely discernible, ironic because their Hoppy Lager is distinctly piney. Appearance: clear light amber, 2-3mm. head dissipates rapidly. Palate: light-bodied and sticky on the tongue, soft carbonation; finish is rather astringent, lingering and satisfying. Taste: lightly sweet, minimally astringent. Tropical fruit veers dangerously close to envelope glue, hops make a guest appearance near the end. Enjoyed this one on the day, but objectively not sure what to make of it. Certainly good on the palate.

MAL trip: day 7/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: very fresh and piney, smells like an IPA. Appearance: clear light amber, 2-3mm. creamy scum. Palate: light-bodied and rather astringent, lively carbonation; finish is abrupt. Taste: lightly sweet with pine, some tropical fruit - lychees - a fleeting hit of 70s era homebrew. Serviceable.

MAL trip: day 1/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: negligible, a bit of cheap milk chocolate. Appearance: opaque cola, one finger tan head. Palate: light-bodied and creamy, soft carbonation; long and lingering roasty finish. Taste: lightly sweet with pronounced roasted notes, powerful 90% chocolate flavour, with chocolate brownies. The taste comes as a surprise after the disappointing aroma, and it’s not exactly complex, but it’s great drinking.

MAL trip: day 1/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: negligible, a fleeting hit of 70s era homebrew. Appearance: clear honey amber, one finger snow white cream. Palate: medium-bodied and very sticky on the tongue, average carbonation; finishes chewy, quite a satisfying palate. Taste: medium sweet, 70s era confectionery, jelly babies. Unrecognisable as a wit beer, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

MAL trip: day 1/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: very fragrant, tropical fruit, lychees. Appearance: completely opaque, looks a bit like marmalade, one finger snow white cream. Palate: light-bodied and very sticky on the tongue, average carbonation; finish is rather abrupt but agreeably dry. Taste: lightly sweet with some astringency, fruit doesn’t really come through - aroma trumps taste. Suits the climate here though, a creditable effort.
