8/10
Feels thinner than cerebral's usual porters? Makes it even more obvious that it's lacking the pohjala Baltic porter thickness and magic. The flavor is good though just short, real short, but chocolatey oaky flavor is there and delicious, just needs moar!

8 ounce at the brewery - black pour, faint wispy lace - nose and flavor are quite vinous - lots of notes of red grape tannins and oak, with warming dark fruit brandy character - dark chocolate and fig late - warming but not boozy, despite the high abv - lightly rough char and roast on the tail end - but quite nice.

8 ounce at the brewery - viscous, inky black pour - nose is heavy on maple, earthy wood, espresso - slick mouthfeel, full body - flavor is heavy on dark roast coffee, but only has moderate acidity that does not become sharp or abrasive - deep maple and wood character - dark fruit, cassia bark, chicory - complex and yummy.

8 ounce at the brewery - black pour with a moderate tan lace - coffee and maple are thick in the nose, along with some char and deep smokiness - smells dang near perfect - slick, oily mouthfeel - fairly sweet chocolate flavors, but tempered fairly well by the bitterness and roastiness of the coffee - cocoa, vanilla, oak, maple, sweet cream, espresso - finish is like an extra shot macho latte - finish is a little on the sweet side, but otherwise really nice.

Pint at the brewery - dark amber, nearly black - retains a lot of the smooth, medium-dry, rich maltiness of the base beer without the barrel overpowering - the barrel character presents more oak than whiskey, and the malts bring a fruitiness that melds with the oak to bring slight notes of red wine - the whiskey is there, but is pretty faint - the malt is still the star on the show here, and the barrel just compliments - I dig it.
