About
First Chop the award winning brewery sprung from humble beginnings. Created by chef, creative and restauranteur Richard Garner, the beer was originally born from his acclaimed bar and restaurant of the same name in North Manchester.
Borrowing use of a local micro brewery, Rik deep dived into his passion for inspirational and quality flavour combos and found that he had created a craft beer range with a fresh approach and instant demand. Within 6 months the demand was such that borrowing a brewery was no longer an option and the First Chop Brewing Arm was born.

First Chop initially settled under a Salford railway arch and combined the fledgling brewery with a rootsy live music, club and arts space at the heart of the Manchester scene. After many events, the site was sadly wiped out by a fire but Rik was on a roll with his beer and set up a new (permanent) home for the brand in nearby Eccles.

330ml can at the Queens Road Tap, Leicester. Golden and clear with a tiny bit of white head. Aroma is fairly light, I'm getting floral notes along with a slightly artificial mango. Sweet taste, more mango but it never really comes to the fore. Light tannic bitterness on the finish with a carbonated-to-hell-and-back body. First Chop do decent stuff but they don't really ever push the boat out. It's a weeknight so I'm not sure I want the boat pushed out so this is perfect.

Keg draught at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Light pinkish purple with a white head and good lacing. The aroma is reasonably light but with a nice whiff of blackcurrant and a little bit of purple grape. The taste is really nice: I'm getting the grainy malty notes of the kölsch with the blackcurrant notes supporting rather than overtaking. Body is really watery which is shame and its got massive carbonation. A very pleasant and well-balanced drink.wasnt expecting to like this as much as I do.

Keg at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Mid- to dark gold, slightly hazy with a thin film of white head and lots of lacing. Slightly lemony and spicy aroma, but it's really light. Sweet taste with some malty character and gentle hop balance in the finish. I want to like this but unfortunately it's pretty dull.
