Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2023, Saturday. Slightly hazy golden beer with a white lacing. Aroma and Taste of sour tropical fruits, mango, brett, barnyard, zest.

Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout from Argentina, where craft brewing has finally gained a foothold as well, though perhaps not as successfully so (yet) as in neighbouring Brazil. At BCBF ’23. Greyish beige, densely moussy, open head on a jet black beer. Aroma of unsugared black chocolate, moist toast, old wood, black pepper, petrichor, salami, dried chili peppers, bayleaf, cigar ashes. Restrained sweetishness in the onset with old raisin and dried prune impressions, light porcini-like umami, medium carb with full but smooth and not overly syrupy mouthfeel; coffee roastedness in the middle alongside unsugared chocolate, dry caramel and dry old oak wood notes, with peppery hops and somewhat wry, gin-like alcohol showing up in the finish. Dryish, bit ‘ashy’ and consistently bitter ‘oldskool’ stout, in which the vanillin-aromas of oak wood and bittersweet flavours of bourbon are kept altogether subtle – too subtle for this day and age, perhaps. Interesting tick, nonetheless.

Pours clear blonde. Small white head. Scent is mildly pine, harsh in a good way. Taste is sharp, pine, bitter, refreshing. Quite nice !

Pours black, no real head. Scent is full, chocolate, smooth, syrupy. Taste is sharp, too thin and highly carbonated. Gingerbread. Bit ashy, burnt chocolate. Not great.

Draught Cream-tan head with shards of lace over jet-black beer. Velvety nose with chocolate, greyish-green leaves. Perfumey, marzipan and black chocolated. Cherry liqueur, vanilla. Finish is Sachertorte with more orange than cherry. Utterly sticky-sweet, syrupy. Rich, says it all.

Pretty cloudy orange blond beer, practically no head. Aroma: very sourish, brett notes, funky, some vinegar, funky, herbal. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, lots of vinegar, sharp acidity, a bit fruity, some lemon juice. Aftertaste: dry, vinegar, sharp acidic, a bit lemony, meh. Nothing complex, just vinegar and citric acid.
