Description
In a disturbing world dominated by almighty conglomerates and flooded by a continuous stream of easy-to-chew myths and lies, a group of young outcasts are stubbornly resisting mediocrity rule.

Lead by a now missing orange monkey, they spend their nights creating new and excellent mind altering substances in a gritty underground warehouse on the outskirts of a small post-industrial town.

Their state of the art malt based substances are designed to free the minds of the enslaved and engineered to offer much needed liquid courage to like-minded individuals in the struggle against the altered realities of the third industrial revolution. As their impact on the system increases in strength, so does their following and their resolve.

Bottle. Pours unclear, light yellow. medium sized head, but not very sable. Much visial carbo. Smell is bit malty ( pale malts ) with a crisp, floral hoppy undertone. Taste is Surprisingly bitter. Very clear sorachi - in contradiction to the scent- with it’s typical creamy, yoghurty, coconutty aroma’s. Bit grassy. The bitterness is perceived higher than most sorachi beers i’ve had. Sorachi is one of the hardest hops to balance in a beer, and I feel the higher bitterness did help here. Unfortunately, the carboonation is too high and the body too thin, making it a wattery-feeling beer. this doesn’t really pair that well to me with the creamy taste you get from the sorachi. Nevertheless, it’s a very decent attempt, and will be a unique beer thats quite drinkable to many.

22/VI/17 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: 7/V/20 (2017-935)

Pretty cloudy pale yellowish to pale beige beer, huge rocking foamy white head, very stable, adhesive, some lacing in the glass. Aroma: fruity notes up front, then bit malty, grains, some citrus, lychee. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: citrus up front, bit sourish even, then a lot of bitter hops, some kiwi, very dry, spicy touch, little sweet. Aftertaste: some grapefruit, banana peel, yeast, more citrus, some marzipan, bitter finish, bit bready, more yeast.

Rye beer fermented with American yeast, so clearly intended as a present-day craft beer (and packed like that as well, in an American style bottle with stylish label). Off-white, moussy head, thin but stable as a rim around the edge, with some flat islands in the middle, beautifully warm and deep orange blonde robe with somewhat pinkish hue, hazy but turning murky and a bit ’milky’, more brownish amber-tinged with sediment. Weird aroma of chicken soup, rusty and otherwise iron-like oxidation setting in but luckily fading eventually, ripe yellow plums, stewed onions, cumin cheese, soapy coriander seed, egg yolk, pink pepper, spoiled peach, damp hay, withering flowers, sweaty grains, soggy bread, gooseberry juice, cooked potato, orange peel, ham, old tea bags, light caramel. Fruity, little bit estery onset, hints of peach, gooseberry and pear, more sourish than sweet, with fizzy, minerally carbonation; grainy body, sharpish with a softening caramelly edge, sourish berry-like fruitiness carrying onwards to the finish, spicy and soggy bread-like rye note, slick and bit glueish mouthfeel with a clear metallic ’zing’ to it. Ends with mildly medicinal phenols and floral, lightly herbal hops adding spiciness and gentle bitterness; metallic aspect lingers alongside very earthy yeasty and sweetish malt notes, but the whole feels a bit empty. The rye adds smoothness and soft background spiciness but the onsetting oxidation adds iron- and chicken broth-like aspects which are hardly pleasant, but do fade away after a while; notably better with the sediment added, but more ’classically Belgian’ at that stage as well. Probably also better in very young condition, but if you want to connect this beer with the global craft beer trends, then at least follow the trend and use new hop varieties to uplift it; in this form, this does not really belong anywhere, falling short in delivering aroma and flavour and lacking a bit in body. Not a great success in my book but I can feel a certain potential in it and if I ever come across this fresh on tap, I might give it another shot; Eutropius may not be the most suitable brewery either to have this type of beers produced, I reckon. In short: quite interesting concept, but not well executed to say the least.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ VBF 2017. THX! for sharing Kraddel. Hazy orange, little white head. Nose is soap, esters, sugar, low dank, overly plastic,... Taste is soap, BE esters, sugar, sweet yeast, bland, herbal,... overly BE,... Body is lively, overly poor BE,... Description sounded interesting but this is overly BE in a poor fashion.
