Bottle from BeerHive, Edinburgh [191113]
Pitch black with a very thin tan head, little lacing
Aroma - Roasted coffee grounds, roasted malts, some burnt toast
Taste - Dark chocolate, roast coffee, dark caramel malts, dark malts hint of dark berry fruit, no hint of alcohol.
Palate - Very soft carb, fairly thin body but richer on the finish. Finish - smooth quite creamy dark malts, dark plain chocolate that quite prominent in the tail
Overall - Some good smooth dark malts here but a little thin. Flavour better than the aroma.

Slightly opaque, reddy-brown beer with an almost dusty caramel aroma. Flavour is mostly malt with a toasty edge with a touch of sour fruit in there too. There’s almost a fume-y feel in the mouth as you might get with a spirit. Slightly watery finish. Not bad but far from the best beer you’ll find of it’s type.

Bottle from Aldi. Murky brown body with a thin off-white head. Light lacing. Mild aroma of earth and caramel. Flavour of toffee apple, raisin, caramel and lightly roasted malt. Medium body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft carbonation. A solid Brown Ale - with a higher ABV it could be truly excellent.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Murky pale golden body with a large white head that holds well. Lively carbonation. Excellent lacing. Dry, dusty aroma of wheat, grapefruit and tangerine. Sharp grapefruit flavour with a dry, peppery finish - it tastes a bit like a Saison. Medium body with a foamy mouthfeel. Very lively carbonation. A sharp, tasty beer. I’d like to try a version of this with less wheat content.
