On Tap at the Boise brewery. Hazy rusty orange amber with a small off white head. Lacing, dried still clinging to the side of the tulip glass. Light slightly caramelized malt aroma. Woody earthy bitterness from the rye. Sharp but not particularly bitter. Surprised to see the claimed 65 ABU actually. Drinkable. Woody utter bite at the end.

Nice mix between the two styles, aromas and tastes beautifully blended. Dark and heady, fruity and roast grains. Awesome concept, wonderfully executed.

On tap at Boise pub. Pours out a dark amber topped with a big fluffy sand head. Nose is candy sugar banana bread spice and pit fruit. Taste is as the nose with a nice sweet belg candy and a nice finish.

On tap at Boise pub. Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Nose is roast malts nice hop bill and a good pit fruit sweetness. Taste is as the nose with a nice sweetness and a nice hop end.

Clear red brown black colour, off-white head. Aroma of red fruit, malts, caramel, soy sauce and chocolate. Sweet malty flavour, caramel. Sweet malty finish, chocolate and caramel.

On Tap at teh boise tasting room. Black with a thin skin of frothy web like lacing. I must say a bit strange aroma and flavors. Sweet and malty, the Belgian character is largely diminished and the stout is faded and mellow. A little grape jelly, alittle tootsie pop and an earthy malty body. Pleasant, just strange.

Sample from brewer Derek, danke schoen! A break from the barley wines we had been drinking all night long, comes on dark and robust, full of roast grains, silky, slick and kind of chewy. Awesome cold weather beer!

Bottle: Dark muddy brown in color with a large beige head. Ample lacing. Nose is muted, but sort of sweet and spicy toasted malt. Deep toasted malt flavors, lightly sweet, and molasses. The fruitiness or apple part is lost on me, but there is a really solid malty/toasty/molasses taste without getting overly sweet. It drinks very nicely at 10% without heat. Like others suggest, I think the proper pairing would enhance the brew.

On Tap at teh Boise taproom. Black with a thin brief head. Lots of sweet roasty aroma and flavor. Not very bitter. Smooth and soft palate. Some chocolate and licorice. Very tasty.
