Description
Visit the world’s first LEED certified microbrewery housed in a refurbished historic funeral home in the East Hills neighborhood. Live the Bon Vivant with neighbors, brewers, and monks alike enjoying rustic farmhouse inspired beers alongside European inspired cooking from our scratch-kitchen.
We are excited to share our passion for beer, food and sustainability with you. Much of the inspiration behind Vivant comes from the small breweries that dot the countryside in Southern Belgium and Northern France. Often, those breweries are true beer artisans who are also an integral part of their community. They experiment with unique yeasts and local ingredients, always with an artistic eye to their creations. Sourcing ingredients locally makes their beer pair exceptionally well with a meal of locally sourced produce, meats, and cheeses. Brewery Vivant promotes living the good life by brewing farmhouse inspired beer, serving a from-scratch menu, and building a sustainable community one beer at a time.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; 2017 vintage, listed at 11.7%. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light notes of molasses, raisin, cherry, smoke, pepper, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. Very slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity/spicy yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light notes of molasses, raisin, cherry, smoke, pepper, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. Light roast bitterness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, dark bread, light dark fruit/smoke, and roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Mild carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Alcohol is very extremely hidden; a mildly increasing warmth with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity/spicy yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter finish. Quite a big transformation from the base beer. Hardly any Belgian influence noticeable; with perfectly balanced silky/rich malts and bourbon barrel complexity. One of the smoothest tasting stouts of this gravity I have had. A highly amazing offering.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Listed at 11.6% on the can. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, cracker, white bread, floral, and grass; with lighter notes of vanilla, honey, toffee, banana, clove, bubblegum, pine, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, cracker, white bread, floral, and grass; with lighter notes of vanilla, honey, toffee, banana, clove, bubblegum, pine, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast, bourbon/oak spiciness, and pine/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, cracker, white bread, floral, grass, vanilla, honey, light banana/clove, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth and moderately grainy/sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a very mild warmth with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic BBA Belgian DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Perfectly balanced between yeast, hops, and bourbon barrel complexity; with just enough pale malts for balance. Never sweet or heavy feeling. A highly enjoyable offering.
