Description
Visit the world’s first LEED certified microbrewery housed in a refurbished historic funeral home in the East Hills neighborhood. Live the Bon Vivant with neighbors, brewers, and monks alike enjoying rustic farmhouse inspired beers alongside European inspired cooking from our scratch-kitchen.

We are excited to share our passion for beer, food and sustainability with you. Much of the inspiration behind Vivant comes from the small breweries that dot the countryside in Southern Belgium and Northern France. Often, those breweries are true beer artisans who are also an integral part of their community. They experiment with unique yeasts and local ingredients, always with an artistic eye to their creations. Sourcing ingredients locally makes their beer pair exceptionally well with a meal of locally sourced produce, meats, and cheeses. Brewery Vivant promotes living the good life by brewing farmhouse inspired beer, serving a from-scratch menu, and building a sustainable community one beer at a time.

16 oz tallboy can shared by beastiefan2k. The pour is a clear golden amber, with a 1/2 inch light tan head that falls pretty quick. The aroma is some ripe apple skin, some cattiness, and then a general Brett sharpness overriding all of that, particularly pronounced as the beer warms. The taste is grass, straw, light malt sweetness, then bright Brett sharpness, along with the apple skin catty tartness of the nose. Bright active flavors, a touch on the sharp side. The palate is medium to light bodied, soft light carbonation, and a huge aftertaste of the Brett. Bit heavy handed on the Brett for my liking, though very cool to have a Brett beer in a can. Thanks for sharing this one Eugene.

Draft at Standard Market, Westmont. $4 in a 10 oz Solemn Oath tulip. My first encounter with Brewery Vivant. Clear IPA style amber/orange color under a foamy head. Citrus and pine hops in the nose. I just assume that a Belgian ale has aromatic malts to it, but this seems more like the satandard English PA malt, crisp, yet sturdy enough to showcase a happy hop profile. Plenty malty as most IPAs go, and that makes a pleasant difference.

Good surprise. Golden pour with nice brett presence. Aroma has good floral hops and some mash malt. Leave a bit of sour, a bit of sweet. Medium carbonation. Nice. On tap at Hopcat.

Can @ home, courtesy of TheAlum. Thanks Adam! Pours a clear burnt orange appearance with a cream colored head. Tangy dark berry, slightly acetic, a bit funky, vinous aroma. Tart, grape drank, vinous, raisin, plum, somewhat funky flavor. Eh, ok, but this isn’t meshing well with my night of drinking old canned beers.

Draft at the brewpub, Grand Rapids. Slightly hazy medium red-brown body, medium cream head. Sourish pumpkin spice nose. Body like a cross between a pumpkin ale and a tart apple pie, with nutmeg, cinnamon, and Granny Smith apple peel. Grassy with tart and sweet elements, nicely balanced. Reminds me of New Glarus fruit beers, but with pumpkin. Yum.

Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Medium to dark, slightly hazy orange body, thin/medium off-white head. Sour nose, wispy and thin with tart fruits and nuts. Thin body with sugars, some tart (but not puckering) indistinct fruits, toast, spice, and warming alcohol in the finish; sharp. Had some champagne/sparkling grape juice qualities, neither very sweet nor very sour. Tastes like a winter beer. Warming.

On tap at fountainhead. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sour acidic fruit with a bit of underlying funk. Flavor has more of a syrupy sour fruit note with a hint of acid and underlying barnyard notes.

Big can. Pour is a fairly clear orange with lots of sudsy head that dies down to a thin film fairly quickly. Aromas have a thick apple edge to them with a little bit of white pepper and some faint funk. Flavor is similar to the nose. Lots of fruit (although it is more white grape juice than apple here), a little spice and just a hint of funk. The Brett presence is a kind of tingly pepperiness that adds nicely to the beer, but the sweetness of the fruit profile is nearly cloying. I have three cans left, and they will be aging for a long time.
