(On tap @ the brewpub, Limoilou, Jan 21/23) Pours opaque dull brownish-pink with a small flesh-coloured ring and pulpy lace. Aroma is mixed berries, raspberry jam of course and some nice sweet cherry, strawberry in the background, floral vanilla cream, overtones of white chocolate, touch earthy. Flavour is quite sweet and lightly tart as expected for a pastry smoothie, prominent cherry flesh and raspberry jam, smooth strawberry and vanilla floral hits, earthy berry pips, nice punch of white chocolate building from middle into the finish, strawberry vanilla vibes becoming more prominent late sip too, soft berry pip astringency and bitterness providing a little balance into the aftertaste but still largely sweet. Medium bodied, could be thicker as a berry smoothie, fairly soft carbonation. Missing a little body but hits the nail on the head in terms of pastry smoothie flavours, white chocolate is complementary to the berries chosen.

(On nitro @ the brewpub, Limoilou, Jan 21/23) Pours very dark brown with a tight and stable dark cream nitro head and no lace. Aroma is loaded with intense dark roast coffee beans lending rich chocolate and earth tones, some brighter floral/fruity notes but they feel more like vanilla, maybe some roast grains in there but the coffee seems to be driving the chocolate party. Smells fantastic. Flavour is a little lighter than I might have expected for >10% but again is driven by the chocolate-forward, nutty and earthy coffee, clear punch of bright floral creamy vanilla, nice smooth lightly roasted malt body, a little crisp/mineral for style like a lower ABV stout can be, not pastry but letting the adjuncts sing. Semi-sweet to dry at the finish, chocolate-vanilla with a little sweet syrup, soft dusty/nutty roast, light bitterness, coffee into the aftertaste. Medium body, maybe light for style but thickness from the low nitro 'carb' fills it up, creamy. Recalls Péché Mortel for the 21st century with its lower bitterness and focus on high quality hipster coffee. Really nice coffee stout!

(On tap @ the brewpub, Limoilou, Jan 21/23 & in 473ml can from there) Odd experience this, both my better half and I felt the draft and can versions were very different beers. Tap version was far superior for me so I'm rating that. Very hazy medium gold pour with a nice thick stable white head and lace. Aroma is super-dank, pineapple weed strains dominating with supporting sweet mango, earthy conifers and grapefruit zest, soft but present cereals in support. Flavour is mid-sweet up front, again loads of dank pineapples (El Dorado) and mango (Citra), but with hefty amounts of conifer and cannabis so Mosaic definitely doing its thing, cereals are present and quite dry really for a TIPA, nice softly fruity yeast, finishes really dry for style with dank grippy weed/conifer, earth, some berry and a little pineapple, moderate bitterness, no hop burn or alcohol. Light to medium body for style, soft semi-creamy carb. Really nice TIPA on tap, felt a bit like Monkish 2017 or something to me being on the dry and dank side of NEIPA. The can was not that at all despite being quite fresh (2wks), much weaker aromatics, canned pineapple, lots of lactose-like sugar, booze. Bizarre.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours fairly bright medium gold with a thick white head that is stable and leaves heavy lace. Aroma of peach, creamy light orange juice, pale citrus zest, tropical florals from Galaxy, light leafy/green garlic edge, not much malt. Flavour is lime, grapefruit and some less sweet orange, slightly bitter rindy floral tropical fruit, lime zest oils, some onion/garlic pepperiness but not hop burn, very light cereals, off-dry at best with a dry finish that has fairly low bitterness and a nice citrus oil grip. Light bodied but oily to creamy, great mouthfeel for low ABV. Excellent low ABV hops; the dryness from the weaker malt base is evident but the mouthfeel and hop profile are of a bigger beer.

(473ml can from BG18e, Quebec City) Pours rather hazy medium yellow with a nice pile of white foam and some lace. Aroma of candied pink grapefruit, mango, heady floral tropical fruit (canned lychee, mangosteen, guava), lime. Flavour is mid-sweet and very juicy, canned peach, candied pineapple and papaya, rich tropical florals, light grapefruit peel bitters, smooth fruity yeast, malt core is really retiring, drying but low bitterness ‘red fruit’ tropical floral finish and aftertaste with nice hop oils. Medium-bodied, oily, rather softly carbonated. Nice floral-side NEIPA vibes while avoiding soapiness, had a certain BdBC-esque feel to it which is a great compliment. Loving the work from Nano Cinco at the moment.
