Description
Hanssens Artisanaal is the oldest independent geuze blender in the whole world. At Hanssens, no beer is actually brewed! Instead, they pursue a profession that was very important in the history of lambic style beers, they are solely blenders of beer.
Hanssens takes this a step further, and actually blends batches from different breweries in their area. This used to be a very common practice, but Hanssens is now the oldest remaining blender. They bring to this endeavor a variety of barrels, some up to one hundred years old, and a passion and a love for the tradition of Geuze and Lambics.

0.375 l bottle from 'Het Huis van de Geuze', bottled in January 2025. Hazy, orangeish golden with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sourish, gently fruity, very funky aroma of horse blanket, overripe lemon, hay, and light vinegar. Minimally sweet, rather sour, very funky and quite fruity taste of horse blanket, oak, overripe lemon, rhubarb, apple, hay and a touch of vinegar, followed by a medium long, fairly tart, gently woody-dry and a little peppery finish. Medium body, quite astringent and fairly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Highly refreshing, funk-forward Geuze, quite sour but not nearly as much as Hanssens used to be.

Men kul samarbete. Gott

Poured totally flat. Aromas are tart cherries, malt and culture. Flavors are similar to nose but with lots of vinegar. Too much vinegar. Drain pour.

Bottled, unknown vintage, on the bus .Thx Jana for sharing with Adam, Jozefina, Peter and me! Murky brownish body. Creamy strawberry jam aroma, quite tart. Sweet strawberry jam dominates the taste, ending with a solid sour finish. Simple, kinda pleasant, likely not in the best of shapes, but fun.
