[330 ml. bottle @ home][Purchased @ Carrefour][BBF 18.09.17] Golden, mousy egg-white head. Nose is industrial esters, phenolic, industrial Jenever, chemical, banana, soap, lighter fluid. Far too fizzy, very high carbonation. Tastes of esters, phenolic, white Jenever finish, soap, banana, bubbly finish, Cava, low green paprika. I am not a fan but it actually achieves in what it set out to do - it is like a bubbly Jenever phenolic ester heavy industrial strong brew. Lovers of antiquated phenolic estery Belgian blonds & Jenever will have a field day with this one, i for one however do not particularly care for either drinks. This is definitely more interesting than the regular version. Funny example of a beer that does exactly what it clearly should do but where i find little to get into. This beer does a better job at imitating Jenever than Hop(e)less Ginny did at imitating Gin (both being quite similar / comparable drinks).

Limited edition of Brugge Tripel with extra spices added; the bottle fails to mention which ones, but I found out afterwards that it is juniper berries. From a white coated 75 cl bottle with cork, bought at a Colruyt supermarket. Opens with a lot of pressure, but no gushing. Irregularly shaped, medium thick, somewhat ’papery’ lacing, snow white, coarse head over a hazy straw blonde beer with deeper ’old gold’ tinge, showing columns of fierce bubbles rising up from the bottom of the glass. Aroma of bubblegum and banana, ripe pear, soap, coriander seed and a lot of it, damp kitchen towels, gooseberry, starfruit, fresh fennel, raw white asparagus, freshly cut celery, cooked turnip, caramel candy, green apple peel, air freshener, gin and unmistakable juniper berries, dough, plastic and vague iron somewhere. Fruity onset, lots of banana ester as expected, hints of apple, starfruit and unripe gooseberry, sweetish with a slight sourish edge, fizzy carbonation even for this style, coarsening an otherwise smooth, rounded mouthfeel but actually feeling less ’full’ than expected from a tripel. Lots of residual white candi sugar sweetness lends a honeyish aspect to the caramelly, cereally and lightly bready malt sweetness that constitutes the middle part, while the banana ester keeps lingering as well. A tad metallic as well, and, more than anything, very soapy. Ends in - unsurprisingly - even more soapy coriander and other, more gin-like spiciness (that horrible Hop(e)less Ginny suddenly springs to mind), some clove-like phenols rising up retronasally and the expected afterglow of young ’jenever’-like alcohol, while hop bitterness remains limited to a spicy, earthy touch at the back. This beer cultivates the old ’gruit’ or ’gruut’ concept in a completely commercial, irrelevant way, and this version is no different, even worse: I am beginning to hate juniper berries due to this kind of gin-inspired beers. It also remains stuck in the sweet, isoamylacetate-ridden Belgian tripel cliché. Overpriced for what it is too, even at Colruyt. This scores very high in my list of completely redundant beers; dominated by banana ester, juniper and coriander. Technically correct for sure, but I see absolutely no point in this. Fortunately the gin effect is less strong here than in that awful Hop(e)less Ginny.

Flesje Gruut thuis gedronken. Amberkleurig, helder bier. Heftig schuimend bij opening en inschenken. Aroma is fruitig. Smaak is fruitig, kruidig en zoet. Nasmaak is iets hoppig.

F: big, white, not long lasting. C: gold, hazy. A: malty, orange peels, banana, spicy, coriander, hint of cinnamon, yeast. T: malt, orange peels, spicy, cinnamon, coriander, banana, medium body, sharp and high carbonation, juniper alcohol warming, grassy, almost ok but carbonation, 0,33l bottle from Delhaize @ Schaerbeek in Brussels.

23/XI/16 - 75cl bottle @ HoReCa Expo (Gent) - BB: n/a (2016-1371)

Clear blond beer, big aery off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit of paint, spicy, herbal. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, citrus, spicy, some banana, bitter, herbal, gin berries? Aftertaste: spicy, some citrus, soft hoppy touch, ginger ale.

Pours rather clear blonde, small White head. Smell is sweet, bit spiced. Taste is bit bitter, intense spices. Not very balanced. Very high carbo . Ok at best .
