Tasting at Matt's, can
Hazy blond colour. Strong maple aroma, some sourness comes through. Medium acidity, berries, very low sweetness, and vanilla; the elements greatly clash with each other.
A mess.

Can. Hazy dull pale. Medium head, but it's weak. Lots of plum on the nose, a bit of passionfruit, too. It's quite tart, and again, plum forward and the passionfruit just at the end. Not sure about the nar...just not finding it.

Hazy pale amber. Thick head. There's certainly a piney note on the nose, but to me that's coming from the hops. On the palate, it's much more obviously spruce. That nice, bright spruce note mixes with some hops, but those hops seem a bit stale. It just arrived in my local shop but was brewed in November, so there's that. Comes across mellow for a DIPA.

16 oz. can, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out earthy coffee, light caramel and a touch of vanilla. Flavour is moderately sweet, with lots of caramel, vanilla and light coffee. Sweet, caramely and coffee-centric but not terribly complex. Pleasant but nothing special.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden amber with a small white head. Aroma is an abomination of maple syrup, nutmeg, cinnamon and strawberry. Flavour is sour and syrupy, with lots of maple syrupy, baking spices, and tart strawberry. The lacto shines through, giving this a yogurty feel. Ridiculous stuff, but not a total disaster.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, brown head, reducing to a thin layer. Aroma of cacao, with a touch of coffee and spices. Good body strength, even if the sweetness is low; the mouthfeel is smooth and soft; strong character of cacao, dark chocolate, then roasted almonds, and the bitterness that comes from those many roasted elements.
Good.

16oz @ Alex's. Appearance: brown with a beige head. Aroma: lots of chocolate, some fruity notes, a bit of nuts. Taste: along the same lines with hoppy bitterness at the finish. Overall: a bit unbalanced, but not bad.
