Description
Two locals, whose grandparents were still working in the mine, developed the beers. The plan to brew on a large scale soon followed. The first liters of Kompel beer poured out of the tanks at Brouwerij Anders! Kompel Bovengronds was quickly successful and six months later Kompel Ondergronds came onto the market. Between the summer of 2015 and 2018, the beers were brewed at Kasteelbrouwerij Ter Dolen in Houthalen-Helchteren. Since 2019, the beers have been brewed on a larger scale at the Pilot Brewery in Lochristi.

15cl glass on 3rd Feb 2019; Brugge Bier Festival. Amber with a white/off-white crown. The nose and taste are both malty and citrusy in nature; malty molasses give sweetness, the citrus fruitiness a slight bitterness. Decent.

Huge light amber head, dense, over foxy chestnut beer. Sweet, caramelly, roasted nose; melanoidins, molasses, dandelions. Sweet-roasted, bit sticky impression. Molasses, syrup but pretty attenuated at the same time, making it more lean. Bit chocolate, cakebottom. Good carbonation, medium body. Average.

Bottle shared at home - Hazy Amber pour with a small off white ringed head. Medium sweet malty notes of toffee and fudge, some caramel, light singed brown sugar, molasses, dark dried fruit, medium body, sweet malty spiced finish.

3 October 2018. At The Monk, Bruges. Cheers to Bryan & Nicolas!
Pours hazy ochre with a big, lasting, foamy, off-white head; lots of lacing. Straightforward aroma of yeast, wort, ripe apple, apricot, faint banana, pineapple, honey, white bread. Taste is medium bready sweet, yet quite fruity too with notes of ripe apple & apricot; touch of yeast introduces a light spicy bitterness, adding subtle hints of hay & grass. Dryish, faintly grassy hoppy finish, lingering bread, yeast, touch of spice. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Decent enough, drinkable, luckily no industrial feel here, but boring too of course.
