Description
Spookton started life as a result of an obsession for homebrewing modern craft beer. We launched in 2022 as a cuckoo brewery and we’re taking our next big step in early 2024 by opening our own microbrewery and tap room in the centre of Chester.

Keg at the Bear, Paddington, 09/05/2025.
Almost clear golden blonde topped with a just off white head.
Nose is all a little subdued, grass, melon, tangerine.
Taste comprises soft malts, light bread dough, citric tinged straw, melon.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close spiked with modest hop bitterness.
All a little hum-drum ... so much better out there these days ... a twiggy kind of an IPA attempted by a first timer on the style!

On tap at Spookton Taproom, Chester. Pours a slightly hazy pale straw with minimal white head. Not much of an aroma – just some vague generic citrus. In the mouth it is quite sweet to start but with some underlying bitterness that gradually increases. Flavour is floral hops with hints of ginger and spice and some lemon and mango coming through later. Finish is dry and slightly sticky. This is reasonable – certainly an easy drinker.

440ml can drunk in at Hopsters, Ipswich. Very light gold, hazy with a small quickly dissipating head. I'm getting lots of white grape, vanilla, grapefruit in the aroma. Juice. Taste is sweet, more grapefruit. A strange plastic/vegetal sort of thing mars it a bit but overall pretty tasty. Short finish with watery body and soft carbonation. I mean, it's decent. Absolutely. But not very memorable in a crowded field. Still happy to try a new brewery and look forward to trying other beers of theirs.

Can from House of Trembling Madness. New brewery tick for me so thought I would give them a go. Misty pale gold with moderate sized white foamy head. Hoppy pale aroma with orange zest and mango with light malts and some grass. Taste of fleshy grapefruit, a touch of citrusy zest, light tropical, semi-sweet and semi-dry bitter finish. Light bodied, reasonably refreshing. Good.
