About
Established in 2017 producing bottled and keg beers, the brewery moved into cask production in 2019. Originally brewing from his residence, owner/brewer David Hampshaw soon relocated the two-barrel brewery into a taphouse in Penistone town centre. The brewery has been expanded to a five-barrel system, allowing for an increased range, a greater focus on cask ale, and wider distribution. Cans were introduced in 2020. The brewery is named after the highly-prized, local, whitefaced woodland sheep.

12/10/2023. Cask at Nottingham Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival 2023. Pours clear dark gold with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is sweet, tropical, stone fruits, grass, light herb. Medium sweetness with moderate developing bitterness. Moderate body, oily, soft carbonation. Bittersweet finish.

Cask (gravity) at Smithifeld, Derby. Initial publicity described this simply as “mild”, the cask label said “hazy light mild”. In the event it poured a murky chestnut with minimal off-white head. There’s nuts and rotting fruit in the aroma. In the mouth it is bittersweet with a chewy texture, flavour of autumn fruits and malts. Finish is quite bitter. A bit strange to say the least.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy pale straw gold. Fine white head is semi lacing. Nose has sweet, bready malts. Lemon rind. Some soft esters. Some stone fruit. Taste has some light sweetness, but is mostly dry and moderately bitter. Smooth mouthfeel. Brisk carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish. Good gear. Could imagine this being stellar on cask.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Fairly deep, ginger gold. Moderate haze. Suds of lasting, white head. Nose has fairly spicy grain. Candied peel. Ripe citrus rind. Hint of minty herb. Taste has an initial sweetness, with some spicy, citrus peel bitterness. Medium body. Quite oily. Fine to moderate carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish. Tasty gear and definitely out of the ordinary, but not one I’d do multiples of probably.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Nitro like pour sits dark chestnut brown in the glass. Fine, pale beige head. Nose has Easter egg chocolate. Syrup. Some vinous notes. Taste is pretty sweet with some tart vine fruit. Light roast. Light to medium body. Fine carbonation. Tart and vinous finish.
